Privacy NoticePrince William has expressed his gratitude for the public’s support as Princess Kate completes her chemotherapy. The Prince of Wales was in Llanelli, South Wales today, engaging with the community and celebrating Welsh sport and culture. He appeared at ease, still sporting his beard, as he arrived at Swiss Valley Community Primary School, where eager crowds had assembled to see him. William shared a moment with 74 year old Pauline Thomas outside the school, where he described the end of Kate’s chemotherapy treatment as “good news”, but added his wife still has “a long way to go”. The locals showed their affection, waiting for hours to meet William post-Kate’s health update.

Sandra Peters, 79, shared a heartfelt message with the prince: “I told him, Bore da, you have a beautiful family, I’m so pleased Kate is recovering. He said thank you very much. He was lovely, he’s so charming.” Alan Evans had an amusing exchange with the prince while his granddaughter Genevieve perched on his shoulders. Alan recounted: “I told him, we all have our burdens. “He replied, yes watch your neck! He’s a charming man.” Sandra and her pal Jane Stoneman, 61, were starstruck as they handed over letters to give to Kate. Jane gushed, “He’s so handsome and beautiful. We’re so lucky to have him.” Meanwhile, Aleena Haider, a 30 year old cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital, made the 200-mile trek from London just to catch a glimpse of Prince William. Aleena said: “It’s a feeling of pride that Prince William is coming to see the school. It’s nice to have the recognition for the teachers and parents who make it such a nice place. We all loved Diana as well.”

Yesterday, Kate shared a personal update on her cancer battle and confirmed that her preventative chemotherapy has now ended. In the video message posted on Monday, 9 September, the Princess of Wales addressed her recovery and said her focus is staying ‘cancer free’, but will be taking ‘each day as it comes’. The 42 year old, who bravely announced in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer, spoke about her experience in the video and said her family had been ‘blown away’ by supportive messages.

In the deeply personal video message, Kate said: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
