Privacy NoticePrince Harry and Meghan Markle are apparently gearing up for what’s being branded as another ‘faux royal’ tour, hot on the heels of their visits to Colombia and their earlier trip to Nigeria this year. Described by some as a ‘quasi-royal tour,’ a source told Hello!: “That’s his world; that’s what he’s used to.” The publication reports that the sights are now set on Lesotho and Botswana, regions linked with Harry’s charity work with Sentebale. The last sighting of the Duke in these areas dates back to 2019. Their recent Colombian adventure in August caused quite a stir when fiscal eyebrows raised over the hefty £1.5 million (8 billion pesos) security bill reported by local media, reports the Express. Since cutting ties with their Royal roles in 2020, the Sussexes don’t have the privilege of always travelling for official Royal trips abroad. During their stay, they were guests of Vice President Francia Marquez, who belongs to the Historic Pact for Colombia coalition, receiving top-notch protection throughout.

However, the price tag for their safety measures has stirred controversy among Colombians grappling with daunting socio-economic challenges. One voice of discontent came from councillor Andres Escobar from Cali City, where the couple wrapped up their tour. Mr Escobar retweeted a now-deleted report by CW Noticias on X, stating: “We continue with an ancient practice: handing over our resources in exchange for smoke and mirrors. “Billions that could have been used to expand coverage of children’s soup kitchens, pay salaries for community mothers, seed capital for Afro communities or adapt sports venues that are practically in ruins.” He also accused Ms Marquez of “wasting public money on her vanity” and “spending our taxes on ‘rich white people’ for photo opportunities and social media”. The couple’s recent trips, including a three-day visit to Nigeria in May, have been met with mixed reactions. While some have praised their efforts to promote mental health initiatives and empower young people, others have questioned the unofficial nature of their Royal tours. The controversy surrounding their security costs has also raised eyebrows, particularly in light of their ongoing dispute with the UK Government over their protection while in Britain. It is reported that Meghan and Harry might be spending Christmas in the UK with their children this year, according to rumours. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been invited to celebrate the festive season at Althorp House with Harry’s uncle, Charles, Earl Spencer, reports Express.co.uk. If they accept the invitation, it would mark Meghan’s first significant visit to the UK since attending the late Queen’s funeral in 2022. However, insiders reveal that the couple has not yet received an invite to join the Royal Family for their traditional Sandringham gathering, and it’s doubtful they would accept even if one was extended.
