Princess Anne makes surprise return to royal duties after five nights in hospital following horse injury

After an incident believed to involve a horse on June 23, Anne, aged 73, is easing back into her Royal commitments. Friday’s appearance marks the beginning of a gradual return to her public role as she recovers. The RDA, which is marking its 55th year, has long been associated with the princess, who became its patron in 1971 and president in 1986. Dressed in an olive-green checked suit complemented by blue gloves and a trilby, Anne engaged with attendees and handed out approximately two dozen awards, taking time to interact with the recipients.

Following last month’s accident, Anne has been recuperating at her Gatcombe Park residence in Gloucestershire, adhering to the recommended concussion guidelines. Anne’s medical team revealed that her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs, but due to her concussion, the exact details of the incident remain unclear. She was able to return to her home, Gatcombe Park, after being discharged from the hospital. But the medical team said she is not fully out of the woods just yet. She is expected to stay home to rest and recuperate until her medical team tells her she is healthy enough to return to royal duties, which we saw recently.

Princess Anne was admitted to hospital but released 5 days later

An air ambulance was initially dispatched to transport the princess to the hospital. However, after receiving on-site treatment from an emergency crew, she ended up travelling by road instead. She received treatment at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for minor head injuries and concussion. After a five-night hospital stay, she was released on Friday, 28 June, and has been recuperating ever since. Despite the remnants of bruising under her left eye, she was all smiles at the event, looking elegant in a grey suit, vibrant scarf, and blue hat. Upon arrival, she was warmly greeted by RDA chairwoman Helena Vega Lozano and CEO Michael Bishop, before she mingled with attendees, handed out awards, and congratulated winners. The Princess seemed overjoyed to resume her duties, celebrating the RDA’s 55th anniversary. She has been a dedicated supporter since becoming its Patron in November 1971 and President in March 1986.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
