Privacy NoticeJay Slater’s mother has hit out at a former detective who offered to help the family, after he shared details of his investigation on social media. She claimed his actions have “knocked her back a million steps”. Apprentice bricklayer Jay disappeared while attending a music festival in Tenerife on June 17. Tragically, the 19 year old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was found deceased nearly a month later on July 15 near Masca, close to where he was last seen. The discovery led to heart-wrenching scenes in his hometown, and investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas, who had pledged to find answers during Jay’s disappearance, has once more commented on the case.

However, Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, has expressed that she wants him to “stay out of it”. Speaking to MailOnline, she said: “I’m still in bits here, I’m having counselling, and it doesn’t get any easier, I couldn’t sleep at all last night because after he posted what he did it on his social media just kicked off all the trolls again. “What he said has knocked me back a million steps, I just wish he would say what he knows or just stay out of it. We last spoke a few weeks ago briefly because I wanted to clear some things up.” “There was nothing really new, I just wanted to go over some things and he said if I remembered anything to give me a call and that was it. I thought for a second he might have something but now I’m thinking it might just be a PR stunt as all it’s done is that it’s got all the bloody Tick Tockers back and they have never really stopped which is even sadder,” reports the Mirror. The initial post-mortem suggested Jay’s tragic end came from a “fall or plunge from height”, with officials confirming his severe injuries involved multiple broken bones. In a recent video update on X, Mr Williams-Thomas shared insights after a hiatus from social media.

He revealed: “I worked very closely with the family and as a result of that, got a lot of information, but also a lot of information from potential witnesses, people involved, people who knew Jay and also the authorities in a roundabout way. One of the things that’s very clear is there is a huge amount of misinformation. “I’ve been back and looked through some of the videos I took when I went out there, in relation to my investigation and thought processes whilst the investigation was going on.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
