Privacy NoticeThe family of Christine Bond, a mother of five from Merseyside, have been left heartbroken after her untimely death from cancer, having originally been misdiagnosed with sciatica. Christine, 41, sadly passed away just ten months following the devastating discovery that it was actually cancer causing her immense pain and weight loss. Her cousin, Clare Purvis, also 41, opened up to the Liverpool Echo about the ordeal and explains that two years ago, Christine found a “lump on her kidneys” but was told by doctors it was nothign to worry about. As her condition deteriorated, Clare shared how Christine endured worsening back and leg pain, which doctors initially attributed to sciatica and arthritis.

Clare continued to add that over the last two years Christine was getting “bad pains in her back and legs”. The doctors over the phone diagnosed her with sciatica and later arthritis. But Christine was losing weight and felt “so tired all the time”. Eventually, her health declined rapidly with Clare explaining that in January Christine was “so weak” after losing stones of weight. As a result Christine sought medical advice again, at which time they took bloods and scans, then she was tragically “told she had cancer in her spine and in her hip and kidney”. Despite treatment, Christine’s condition continued to worsen, as Clare recounted the tragic progression: “Three weeks ago they [the doctors] took her off medication because it wasn’t working, they said she possibly had months, then months turned into weeks and then they told us it would be days. “I got a phone call on Wednesday [October 9] to say it would be her last hours. She passed away on Thursday, October 10, peacefully in hospital. It still doesn’t feel real, she has always been there,” reports the Liverpool Echo.

Clare shared with the ECHO how she and Christine were more than just cousins, they were best friends who grew up together. “We are cousins but we went to primary school and senior school together, she literally is my best friend. We have grown up together every step of the way, we have so many memories together. I just can’t get my head around the fact she has gone, and so quickly. If I feel like this I don’t know how her kids are getting through it.” Christine is a mum-of-five, her youngest is just seven years old and her oldest is 26, she also her three grandchildren. Clare has praised Christine’s children for being “amazingly strong” and her set up a GoFundMe to help them out financially. I know everyone says this but she really was the most genuine person ever, I’ve been so overwhelmed by the support so far. One thing she was, she was made to be a mum. She had time for everyone, she loved going out and having a good dance. She loved life, she lived for her kids, everything she did was for her kids.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
