The Nansledan Estate, near the popular Cornish coastal town of Newquay, is run by The Duchy of Cornwall. The Duchy of Cornwall – launched in 1337 by King Edward III for his son, Prince Edward AKA the ‘Black Prince’ – is an expansive private estate set amidst hundreds of lush acres of land, ensuring total privacy. As per a traditional charter, the Duke of Cornwall title is reserved for the eldest surviving son of the monarch. Inevitably, little Prince George is set to follow this centuries-old tradition, standing to inherit this whopping 135,000-acre estate from his dad in the future.

Back when Charles was still the Prince of Wales, he worked alongside the Duchy of Cornwall. However, this responsibility has been passed to Prince William since he became the new Prince of Wales. To prepare him for his upgraded title and associated obligations within the Duchy of Cornwall estate, King Charles has been side-by-side training his eldest son, Prince William. Reflecting on this future role in ITV’s documentary (2019), Prince William mentioned: “I’ve started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I do with it. I think it’s really important, about the family angle, I really do.”

In a heartfelt response to Prince William’s remarks, King Charles expressed: “When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears.” While Poundbury Estate in Dorset might be the most talked-about Duchy of Cornwall property, the Nansledan Estate in Cornwall is making waves in an area known for its vibrant party scene. Like many upscale estates, Nansledan comes with a set of non-negotiables: no visible laundry lines or bins and a ban on individual satellite dishes.

Newquay, the lively Cornish town that’s home to the estate, is renowned as one of the UK’s leading party destinations, regularly topping the charts as a hotspot for stag and hen celebrations. Back in 2018, CornwallLive highlighted Newquay’s status as the seventh most popular UK destination for stag dos, thanks to its bustling bars, restaurants, and budget-friendly pints. As a Duchy of Cornwall asset, Prince William now counts several properties in the town among his holdings. The Nansledan project is a long game, expected to unfold over four decades. Should you choose to call it home, be prepared to abide by a few golden rules: keep the noise down, avoid raucous rows, door slamming, and anything else that could disturb the peace.
