Privacy NoticePrincess Kate is all set for a grand return to Wimbledon this Sunday, with Kensington Palace confirming her presence at the Men’s Singles Final. Since becoming the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Kate has been the one presenting the winners’ trophies since 2016 and has also been there to offer consolation to those who didn’t win. Remember in 2019 when she comforted her friend Roger Federer after his loss to Novak Djokovic? She even seemed to break Royal protocol by putting her arm around him! Traditionally, the Royals are known for their reserved public demeanour, especially the older generations who usually avoid physical contact. But Kate’s always worn her heart on her sleeve at Wimbledon, famously telling Roger he was “incredible” after a match.

With her comeback to the courts tomorrow, we might just see her getting emotional again as Novak Djokovic takes on Carlos Alcaraz. Back in 2017, Kate was spotted at Centre Court rooting for Federer as he clinched his eighth Wimbledon title against Marin Cilic, where she celebrated his victory with not one but three kisses on the cheek. This friendly gesture highlights the close bond between them, with Federer even giving Prince George tennis lessons at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury. Roger Federer has shared some adorable insights about Prince George’s tennis skills, revealing at Wimbledon in 2019: “I love to see that they are [the Wales children] into tennis or into sports.”

He also complimented the young royal’s technique, saying, “His mum has always enjoyed tennis. I hope he’ll stay the same in a few years’ time and this is not just an in-the-moment situation.” When quizzed about being George’s favourite player, Federer admitted, “I think I have a little advantage that I actually spent some time with him, so maybe I’m the only player he’s ever met. Then you have a little head start into who is your favourite player.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William, keen to foster a love of sports in their kids, have even sought advice from Novak Djokovic. The tennis ace once asked them, “How are your children? “, prompting Kate to respond, “Yeah, very well”. Prince William added, “Very well thanks, very well… Trying to get a tennis racket in their hand and a football! ” A source revealed that Kate is proactive with George’s interest in sports, noting, “She says with George just being four he wants to whack a ball, so she was asking what sort of stuff she should be doing.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
