Privacy NoticeJames, the Earl of Wessex and son of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, is set to receive his GCSE results tomorrow. The 16 year old royal, who typically keeps a low profile, will join countless other teenagers across the country in receiving these important exam results. His older sister, Lady Louise Windsor, received her GCSE results four years ago, but they were not made public. It’s expected that James’ results will also remain private. Despite being 15th in line to the throne, James takes his education seriously. In fact, he even missed the Trooping the Colour ceremony with his Royal relatives back in June due to it being school exam season. Earlier this year, BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared some insights about James’ current situation and what the future might hold for him. Speaking to OK! in March, she revealed: “James is currently gearing up for the first big test of his school life….his GCSEs. Like most 16-year-olds, it’s a tough time for him – although it’s unlikely that his results will be made public. That’s in tune with the rest of his upbringing where his parents have tried very hard to allow James as normal an upbringing as possible – given his heritage. And, by and large, they have succeeded”, reports the Mirror.

“We know that James is an affable, popular young man who enjoys the outdoor life (especially at Balmoral). Fly fishing with his mum is a favoured activity and he is said to be pretty good at it. He enjoys the barbecues… he can flip a burger expertly! And, just like his sister, he has been brought up to mix with all sorts of people, and enjoys sleepovers and parties with friends.” As for what Jennie believes the future has in store for the young royal, she explains: “I think we can expect James to follow his ambitions and not necessarily take the traditional royal route of military service. He will probably try for University and then work out a career path. He can draw on the experience of his royal cousins, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, who have made their own way. “It’s highly unlikely that James will ever use his HRH and he will not inherit the Dukedom of Edinburgh. That all guarantees him a sense of freedom that royalty ‘with all the bells on’ makes very difficult.”

Jennie added: “Sophie and Edward have been incredibly successful about keeping their children out of the limelight… James even more so than Louise. But by all accounts, he is an outgoing young man who will take his rightful place at official occasions, but will never be a full-time working royal.” James was born in December 2007 at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey – close to his parent’s home of Bagshot Park. His full name is James Alexander Philip Theo – with the middle name Philip likely a nod to his late grandfather Prince Philip. Back in 2020, their mother Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, shared her thoughts on her children’s education as Lady Louise was finishing school. Speaking to The Times, Sophie explained: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely [going] to have to work for a living. Hence why we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
