Privacy NoticeThe Princess of Wales gave a hidden gesture to the public in her cancer update video as she proved she is the rock upon which the monarchy rests, a royal expert has claimed. Kate shared an intimate video with her family, announcing her return to public duties after completing her chemotherapy treatment. The video, filled with never-before-seen images of the Waleses and their children enjoying outdoor activities, was overlaid with Kate’s heartfelt narration about her cancer journey. She described the past nine months since her health scare as “incredibly tough for us as a family” and acknowledged that the “cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone”, adding that the experience has given her a “new perspective on everything”. Royal expert and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop believes that this three-minute video allowed Kate to share more with the public than she has in her three decades in the limelight. Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “The Waleses’ montage is a bucolic vista, an inescapably English scene in which Kate shares a window on a difficult nine months.”

“The Princess of Wales admits it has been ‘incredibly tough’, with a life-changing diagnosis involving ‘stormy waters and a road unknown’ and there’s palpable relief at the completion of her chemotherapy treatment. “In a stunning display of carefully curated footage, the princess manages to share almost more with the public in three minutes, than she has in the last three decades. William and Kate enjoy unbridled moments of affection, with Kate recognising the importance of ‘loving and being loved.’ The simple things that so often get overlooked. “This is a new version of family monarchy, reframed in the light of a serious health scare and meticulously choreographed. Will Warr is a wedding photographer and he knows what he is doing: the slanting beams of sun, the dappled light, the evergreen uptick of a great Norfolk forest. “If this is the Waleses in a turbulent time, then we can feel hopeful for the future. The children are playful and pretty, the card games with Grandpa Middleton old school and the photoshoot a masterclass in just how much this family has learnt in nine short months. Mothering Sunday’s photo-gate feels a long way off.”

Tessa added insight on the Duchess’s communication through the video, saying, “Not only has Kate come to terms with cancer, she has adjusted to her new reality, one which she is now controlling, not with her own amateur photographs, but by employing a professional to help her tell the story she wants to share. “The Princess talks of humility and the difficulty of facing her own vulnerabilities, but like the trees that surround her, one senses a new found strength. Kate has not only battled cancer, she has also found her voice. This is the Princess’s thank you note to the nation; the highly personal video is the public’s reward for giving her space over the summer, and it is also a holding video, while Kate gradually returns to work.” “The broader messaging is clear, the Prince and Princess, with their clutch of picture-perfect children, remain the rock upon which the future of monarchy rests. Swathed in gentle music and golden corn, the mood is optimistic: ‘Out of darkness can come light, so let that light shine bright.'”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
