Privacy Notice Amber Gill rose to fame after winning the fifth series of Love Island in 2019, and with the success, went on to create her own swimwear line and penned two romance novels. Now, as we move into the colder months, the 27 year old is ready to slow down and embrace the cosy season, vowing herself to take a ‘back seat’ with a focus on self-care from the comfort of her London home. “I’ll be in the house more, going to the gym more and looking after myself more. Whereas in the summer, I’m here, there and everywhere, out till late. I’ve switched my mindset which has helped a lot in the way that I view the colder months”, she exclusively tells us. “I’m usually go go go all the time, so now, I’m just going to chill.”

In a bid to embrace the cosy season, Amber says she “works with the season” and views it as a type of “hibernation”. But as the days get darker, Amber admits she can struggle with Seasonal affective disorder, also known as SAD. “I do get that, I’m a summer baby, I love the sun,” she tells us. But Amber has plenty of advice to share with others when it comes to navigating the colder seasons. “There’s something called the winter off, which is going to the gym, stay in, eat really nice food and learn a new skill, that’s what I’m doing, and I recommend it to others.” She adds, “I love being indoors, Netflix and cuddles, I know it sounds boring, but I love it. When it gets lighter again, I’ll come back out and go back when it gets darker again.” When it comes to putting the heating on, Amber is adamant that when it gets too cold, it will be going on, but not before heading into the kitchen to make a hot water bottle. “There’s nothing worse than being too cold,” she said as she continued to reveal her new collection plans. “When I was hiking Kilimanjaro earlier in the year, this girl brought a mini hot water bottle, and I was so jealous, so I’m now looking at getting a range of different-sized ones,” she laughed.

She explained: “I’m getting a smart meter, I had one when I was in Newcastle, but when I moved into my apartment in London, which I rent, I didn’t realise I was allowed to get a smart meter. It was something that I was obsessed with when I was in Newcastle, so when I realised I could do that, I made an appointment to get one fitted. “I think it’s something that younger generations find important, it’s certainly something that I find important – I want to know my energy uses and how much impact I’m having. Climate change is something that’s on everyone’s mind, and so being mindful in a home is the first part. A lot of people are like that, especially the younger generation who are very conscious, which is a really good thing.” While Amber is looking forward to tracking her energy levels, she candidly admits it hasn’t always been a priority, especially when she lived at home with her parents. “Now I get why they had issues with me taking 45-minute-long showers and keeping the lights on, I now understand, but I didn’t at the time,” she tells us. “Now that I live on my own, it’s now at the forefront of my mind, compared to when I lived at home with my family.”

While she’s ensuring to stay in more, with cosy nights being her favourite, Amber can’t help but give us a glimpse of her adventurous side, and will soon be heading off on a “rock climbing and camping” getaway. She said: “I got rock climbing shoes, but I didn’t realise your foot had to be crushed in them, so I’m not looking forward to that. But with these holidays, I don’t really think it through, I just book it, and I’ll figure it out later.” Amber has teamed up with Smart Energy GB to encourage younger renters to make a choice to get a smart meter installed in their home to help manage energy levels.
