Privacy NoticeThey might be two of the most famous people in the world, but even Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have affectionate nicknames for one another. The Duchess of Sussex has let slip the nickname she calls her husband on a handful of occasions, including on The Late Late Show and hit Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. Meghan, 42, lovingly called Harry, 39, ‘H’ when James Corden FaceTimed her on The Late Late Show. She also used the nickname throughout hers and Harry’s Netflix series. Recalling the early days of their romance, Meghan said: “I had a career, I had my life, I had my path, and then came H. Talk about a plot twist.”

Meghan previously shared the loving nickname she calls her husband

The nickname H was actually first introduced in 2019, in the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which was filmed ahead of the couple’s Royal departure. In the show, Meghan says: “I’ve said for a long time to H—that’s what I call him—[that] it’s not enough to just survive something, right? That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy.” However, Harry also has a second nickname given to him by Meghan. In the pair’s Netflix series, Meghan revealed that she has her husband saved in her phone as ‘Prince Haz’, as this was the name he was called by the mutual friend who set them up on a date. Harry has admitted the nickname is only to be exclusively used by Meghan, having previously told James Corden not to call him Haz in a jokey exchange. During an interview in 2021, James said: “Haz? I didn’t know we were calling you ‘Haz’ now,” to which Harry replied: “You’re not my wife.”

Affectionate nicknames are common amongst families and couples, even the Royal Family. Several members of the Firm have unintentionally revealed their nicknames over the years, from the Princess of Wales to Queen Camilla. The late Queen Elizabeth II was lovingly known as Lilibet by her close family and husband Prince Philip. Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet in tribute to the late Queen, who was known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as ‘Granny’ and ‘Gan Gan’. King Charles and Queen Camilla reportedly gave each other nicknames while they were dating. Charles was known as Fred while Camilla was called Gladys, with the names also helping the pair to maintain their privacy. Elsewhere, Charles gave Meghan the nickname ‘Tungsten’, after reportedly likening her tough and unbending personality to the strong metal.

Prince William is understandably known as Will, but he was also given the nickname Wombat in his early years by his mother Diana following a trip to Australia. His three children – George, Charlotte and Louis – lovingly call him ‘Papa’ or ‘Pops’, it has been revealed. Meanwhile, his wife Kate, 42, was called ‘Squeak’ by her schoolmates, while her sister Pippa was nicknamed Pip. The Prince and Princess of Wales have also given all three of their children sweet nicknames. It was previously revealed that Prince George is called ‘Tips’, after the popular tea brand PG Tips, while Charlotte is believed to have been nicknamed ‘Mignonette’ as well as ‘Lottie’, and Louis is ‘Lou-bugs’.
