Privacy NoticeThe Prince and Princess of Wales wrote a moving funeral tribute to a pizza-seller they met during their 2023 trip to Wales, after they were pictured buying several pizzas from him. Dad-of-two, Peter Morris, 47, died from cancer in May, just weeks after Kate was diagnosed with the disease and revealed she was in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy. Peter, who ran the Little Dragon Pizza Van, had already beaten oesophageal cancer but doctors later found the disease in his adrenal gland and liver. He sadly passed away less than a year after his diagnosis.

Meghan’s ‘temper tantrum’ was the ‘beginning of the end’ for Princess Kate

It has since been revealed that Prince William sent a letter of condolence on Kensington Palace stationary to his widow, Tracey. It was read out at his funeral. He wrote: “We can only begin to imagine what an immense hole he will leave in your life and my heart goes out to you and your family. Catherine and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Pete. “We know that Pete was a hugely dedicated and highly valued member of the community which has been evident from the response to his passing. I did want you to know just how much you and your family are in our thoughts at this time.”

Speaking at the time about his royal encounter, Peter said: “They were really nice. When I was setting up the business it would have been beyond my wildest dreams that one day I would serve the future king.” The couple had met Peter, from Ebbw Vale, South Wales, when they spent £127.50 on 12 pizzas from his converted VW van in April last year. They handed out a selection of margarita, pepperoni, BBQ chicken and goats cheese pizzas to Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team on a visit to Dowlais Rugby Club, Merthyr Tydfil.

The news of Peter’s passing came just months after the Princess of Wales revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer back in March and released a personal video message. She said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. “As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

The Princess continued: “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both. “We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery. “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
