Privacy Notice Will Bayley has appeared on This Morning to discuss his experience on Strictly Come Dancing in 2019. The Paralympian was partnered with Janette Manrara for the BBC dancing show but had to withdraw six weeks into the competition after tearing his knee ligaments during rehearsals. Recently, Will has been sharing insights about his behind-the-scenes experiences on Strictly, particularly in light of a scandal that has raised questions about the show’s duty of care protocols. The table tennis player revealed that the injury, which happened when his professional partner Janette asked him to redo a jump following a “rubbish” attempt, has resulted in a pain he will have to endure “forever”.

During his appearance on This Morning on Tuesday (July 23), Will spoke with Alison Hammond and Joel Dommett, who was standing in for Dermot O’Leary, about his time on Strictly. However, the conversation got off to an awkward start, reports the Mirror. Dressed in his Tokyo Paralympics tracksuit for the video call, Will mistakenly said he was heading back to Tokyo for the 2024 Olympic Games, instead of Paris.

Paralympic gold medallists Will and Rob Davies are part of a team of 11 athletes set to represent ParalympicsGB in the table tennis events at Paris 2024. After realising his mistake, Will corrected himself, saying: “Ah I mean Paris. I’m wearing my Tokyo tracksuit thats why I said it.” Speaking about his Strictly experience, Will confessed that he “didn’t have an issue” with Manrara, who now co-hosts the spin-off show It Takes Two. However, he felt the pressure from the show’s producers was to blame for their issues.

“Ultimately, I think she was under a lot of pressure by the bosses to perform a certain way and I think it was them pushing me that caused the accident,” he revealed, but added: “I feel she could have protected me more… It was mentally hard and I didn’t want to let her down.” A representative for Manrara responded: “Janette had a great time dancing with Will and one of her favourite moments on the show was doing their contemporary couples choice.” “Her celebrity partner’s safety and enjoyment was always the priority throughout her time on Strictly . Janette has never received any complaints and has maintained friendships with all her partners, including Will.” This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVXStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
