Scott Thomas, 36, opted out of a grand return to the villa along with other axed islanders. Scott, who made a dramatic exit from the show earlier in the series, was meant to jet back to South Africa for a final reunion with his fellow contestants. However he didn’t make the return, leaving fans speculating as to why. While his former co-stars readied themselves for their returns, Scott has been sharing snaps of his life back home, documenting a casual paddle session with pals at a Macclesfield club. Clearly relishing his downtime, he shared an update via Instagram, remarking: “So it’s Valentine’s Day and they said do something that makes you feel good. So this is my Valentine’s evening,” whilst showing off the indoor padel action. Adding, “I don’t know how I managed to blag some of my boys in to play on Valentine’s Day – even though they’ve got Mrs’, they must be in the dog house right now. But I’m happy so let’s go.”

Scott has also shared snaps of him hiking in the Peak District, hitting the gym and working on his businesses from home. A source told The Sun: “Scott didn’t want to go back in after quitting, so he told ITV no to flying back out. He achieved everything he wanted to on the show and didn’t see any point in going back. He just wants to focus on his business now”, reports the Mirror. Consequently, Scott will be notably absent from Monday’s finale, where returning Islanders get together with the finalists before the champion is announced. Scott chose to leave the show earlier in the series, pointing to his struggle to spark a real connection with Tina Stinnes, 29, and India Reynolds, 34, who already left the villa. His departure was further spurred by a fiery clash with Elma Pazar and Tina, which led him to realise that it just “wasn’t for him”.

In a candid chat with host Maya Jama during his departure, Scott reflected on his initial stint on the ITV hit back in 2016, where he found love with Kady McDermott, and admitted it influenced his choice to leave. “The first time I did this show I had that instant connection with someone, and it made everything so much easier,” he shared with Maya, reminiscing about his past romance. Maya probed further: “Could that maybe have been the downfall then? Having your first experience, hitting it off straight away with Kady pretty much, and then coming in and maybe expecting the same and it not happening?” Scott replied: “Yeah, I think I took it for granted the first time round. To find someone you’ve got that – I call it fireworks. I had a connection with Tina but it wasn’t fireworks, and yeah, it feels like the right decision.”
