Privacy NoticeCheryl and her ex-beau Liam Payne sent fans into a frenzy with the unique name they chose for their son – Bear Payne. Back in March 2017, the former couple proudly announced the arrival of their baby boy, having been an item for a solid year. While Bear might seem like a celeb favourite, with stars like Kate Winslet and Alicia Silverstone bestowing it upon their own offspring, the name also reminiscent of cuddly Teddies or even inspired by adventurer Bear Grylls. Cheryl’s reason for picking the name was quite personal, as she opened up about on RuPauls ‘Whats The Tee’ podcast. In 2019, Cheryl spilled the beans that Bear wasn’t an instant choice; instead, it surfaced five weeks postpartum amidst a whirl of speculation. The pop sensation from Girls Aloud recalled: “When I was in the hospital, he used to make these noises.

“We had specialists coming in to see what was going on, he was breathing like quite cute but nothing worrisome. It was just him. The midwife used to come in and say: ‘How’s the little bear?’ I didn’t have the name prior..” And Cheryl couldn’t shake the nickname, adding that, despite considering other names: “I couldn’t get the nickname out of my mind. We toyed with others but I didn’t want him to be the third and such and such in his class. I wanted him to have a unique name.” Just four days after Bear’s arrival, Cheryl shared the delightful news on Mother’s Day with a heartfelt announcement: “Although he still doesn’t have a name he is already stealing hearts. We are all madly in love and overwhelmingly happy with our little arrival. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers around the world. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever.”

The decision to name their son Bear was also influenced by new dad Liam, who gushed over both Cheryl and their bundle of joy. Posting the same sweet image as Cheryl, Liam couldn’t hide his elation: “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I’m left speechless… wow! “I’m incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it’s a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far. I’m completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this, she’s really made my dreams come true.” Melted by the tiny tot before they’d even settled on a name, he added, “We haven’t named him yet but he’s already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed.”

Cheryl and Liam went their separate ways in July 2018, yet they’ve kept a tight unit for the sake of their son Bear. In his heart-to-heart with Ant Middleton on ‘Ant Middleton and Liam Payne: Straight Talking,’ Liam shared his feelings: “They’re so important to me Cheryl as well. She’s one of the most, if not the most, important people in my life. Even though we’re not together, Cheryl’s always there for me. I’m lucky I have someone who understands what I’m going through. The one thing I was missing as a man in the relationship I had, was a level understanding about what she was feeling about stuff.” The inquiry into the heartrending incident involving Liam continues, after his untimely demise caused by a fall from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony on Wednesday.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
