The third instalment of the mystery drama The White Lotus kicked off with a bang on Monday 17 February, delivering a slew of unexpected twists and turns. One of the most jaw-dropping moments was the sudden reappearance of a character from the past seasons. While it was common knowledge that Belinda Lindsey (Natasha Rothwell), the spa manager from the Hawaii-based first season, would be jetting off to Thailand for the new series, the comeback of Greg from the first and second seasons took viewers by surprise. Greg, brought to life by Jon Gries, initially graced the White Lotus resort in Hawaii in the inaugural season as a somewhat dubious singleton who began a romance with heiress Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge). In the sequel, now hitched, the duo vacationed at the White Lotus in Sicily where Greg’s nonchalance towards his wife led to Tanya striking up a bond with British expat Quentin (Tom Hollander).
Tanya’s husband Greg is back for the third season of The White Lotus
The plot thickened when Tanya stumbled upon a photograph linking Quentin to Greg, hinting at a sinister conspiracy between the two. It was suggested that Quentin’s attempt to murder Tanya aboard his opulent yacht might have been a scheme hatched with Greg, who stood to inherit her fortune. Tragically, while Tanya managed to fend off her attackers and kill them, she slipped off the boat, hit her head and died instantly, reports the Mirror. During the premiere of the third season, Greg made a surprise re-entrance towards the end of the episode. British lass Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) finds herself in conversation with Chloe (portrayed by Charlotte Le Bon) at the hotel bar, who discloses that her partner is what locals dub an ‘LBH’ – an acronym for ‘losers back home’. She nods toward her beau, revealing Greg seated casually at a table. Chloe’s reveal that they’re not guests but residents with a house nearby hints at Greg’s newfound prosperity, although details remain shrouded in mystery for now. What’s more, there’s intrigue building around whether Belinda, a hotel regular who bonded with Tanya in the first season as she was getting familiar with Greg, will clock his face among the newcomers.

The buzz among fans is undeniable following Greg’s unexpected comeback. One fan commented, “Incest plotline, toxic female friend group, Greg… oh we are so back,” and another eagerly shared their reaction: “When they showed Greg I just about jumped through the screen omfg.” While one viewer expressed a morbid curiosity: “I need Greg dead… but not until episode 4,” another was simply astounded: “Can we talk about Greg. The young girl’s boyfriend. My jaw. On the floor.” Fans have been busy speculating about what’s going on in the latest episode, with theories whirling around Greg. “Is Greg the killer?” one viewer pondered, alluding to the mysterious gunshots and the unseen corpse revealed at the episode’s outset. While another fan shared their own forecast: “My prediction: I think Greg is there for Belinda. I think Tanya left Belinda a lot of money after feeling guilty for what happened in season one. And Greg is there to get her. Belinda, get behind me, girl!” The show’s creator, Mike White, dangled some intriguing bits about what Greg’s return indicates in a chat with Time Magazine, saying, “I got excited, because I was like: This is how we can keep the Tanya storyline alive. This is where he would end up, and this is the kind of situation he’d be in,” hinting at the possibility that Greg’s journey might be fraught with complications.
Patrick Schwarzenegger has responded to comments about his character on the show
While the premiere has had its share of jaw-drops, it’s also stirred up some controversy with a scene featuring Patrick Schwarzenegger, who portrays Saxon Ratliff. On holiday in Thailand with his family, Saxon shares a room with his brother Lochlan and makes a comment about his grown sister being “pretty hot”. He also strolls to the bathroom in the buff, revealing rather too much in a fleeting full-frontal reflection, accompanied by an enigmatic comment that left many surmising an incestuous twist could be brewing. The online chatter about Patrick’s family on the show has taken some wild turns, with one fan even jesting they wanted to “kill Saxon with a hammer,” while another tweet called out the “weird” vibes in his family. Patrick responded to the comments by reposting some of the tweets and sharing his reaction with laughing emojis.
