Privacy NoticeVictoria Beckham’s upcoming Netflix show has put the brakes on a Spice Girls documentary. The fashion icon, who made her mark as Posh Spice, will star in her very own mini series produced by none other than her hubby David Beckham’s outfit, Studio 99. But in a shock twist, Victoria hasn’t yet extended an invite to the rest of the Spice crew to appear on the show. Sources close to Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner say they have been trying to get a Spice Girls documentary off the ground for at least six years. Now, there are concerns that their endeavour might be on hold again due to Victoria’s busy schedule. A source told the Mirror: “The girls have been trying to get a deal going for several years, but it never could get over the line. Now Victoria has her own project about her own world, family and experiences. The question is, just how much will the project be about the Spice Girls, and who will be asked to contribute to that story?”

David’s streaming success with his eponymous Netflix series only hints at the potential buzz for Victoria’s solo venture. She sparkled in his series, so naturally, she’s seizing the spotlight with her show, according to reports. Our source added: “For Victoria, having her own show allows her to be the only voice addressing every moment in her life and all the Spice Girls’ highs and lows. “As yet, none of the other girls are definitively signed up to the show. They are happy for Victoria getting the deal, but they would love to be involved. And some more than others feel they have a lot to say about the Spice Girls era. Certainly, the whole bigger picture is not going to be presented because it’s a show about Victoria, so they are all guessing what, and how, they may fit in if at all. “And then the greater question is whether the docu-series will reignite interest in a Spice Girls documentary, whether Victoria will participate or prompt demand for a live show comeback.”

Mel B and Geri were the driving forces behind a deal with a major production company to “tell the girls’ full story in their words for the first, and possibly last, time”. Mel enlisted Hollywood super-agent Ari Emmanuel in a bid to bring the project to life. As far back as 2018, the band discussed plans for a “warts and all” documentary charting their meteoric rise to fame in 1996, demise in 2000 and comeback tour and Olympics farewell in 2012. The Oscar-winning 2015 film Amy, about Amy Winehouse, was said to have made the girls believe that their story could also “create something magical”. Emmanuel, whose career inspired the hit TV series Entourage, has also helped films such as Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story hit screens.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
