Privacy NoticeUlrika Jonsson has opened up about her battle with alcohol, revealing she’s been sober for four months after using booze to “escape from my woes”. The telly star confessed to The Sun that she “sobbed like a child” when her best mate confronted her about her drinking habits. After parting ways with hubby Brian Monet in 2019, Ulrika admitted she felt alone dealing with “family problems and personal issues”. “It was just me and my friend, the drink,” she shared with the publication.

The 57 year old mum of four confessed she didn’t recognise herself anymore, signalling there was an issue. While she wasn’t a daily drinker, Ulrika revealed she was on the path to drinking every day “when things got bad over the past year. I established a routine of drinking then punishing myself with hard work through my hangover,” she explained. “And then reward myself with another drink at the end of it all.” Sobriety, according to Ulrika, has brought her “much-needed peace”. “Drink quelled my anxiety,” she admitted. “I was a highly functioning binge drinker. I never woke up dishevelled in a pool of sick. But the number of times I would black out and not recall the night before when I had been drinking alone, were increasing.” She also confessed that alcohol “stifled my anger” and helped her “remember the good times and to forget the present bad times”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
