Privacy Notice Sydnie Christmas, the 28 year old singer from Kent, went straight through to the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals after receiving a Golden Buzzer from Amanda Holden last month. She will now compete for a place in the final in one of the five live semi-final showdowns taking place on ITV from Bank Holiday Monday, in which the 40 best acts from this series, including all the Golden Buzzer winners, get the chance to perform for viewers’ votes. It’s a prospect that Sydnie described as “terrifying” in an interview with TV Times. The singer and gym receptionist also addressed the criticism she has faced for having some stage experience before auditioning for BGT. After Amanda Holden pressed the Golden Buzzer on Saturday 20 April, following Sydnie’s powerful rendition of Tomorrow from the classic musical Annie, ITV viewers took to social media to complain about what they thought was her successful career on stage.

One viewer expressed their disappointment in Sydnie being chosen, saying: “It’s a load of cr*p, ive just looked her up, been acting since 9, graduating from Performing School Art school, been in Starlight Express.” “Sydnie Christmas is a professional singer/actress already working in the West End. Thought #bgt was for amateurs not professional. She’s taken golden buzzer off someone more deserving,” wrote another. A third said: “Ah the ‘I just want to be on West End’ singer who has performed in Grease and Starlight Express. I’d respect someone so much more if they’re just honest about their experience.”

However, Sydnie explained to TV Times that she hasn’t quite had the breaks that TV audiences may have thought she had. “I’ve been doing theatre shows abroad for a long time, including Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany, but I’ve always been in the background, never a leading lady,” she explained. “What’s the saying, ‘Always a bridesmaid, never the bride?’ Well, I’ve never been let in the West End!”

She also spoke about how important it was for her to audition for Britain’s Got Talent in an interview for the show. “I was pinching myself. I thought this couldn’t be real… this doesn’t happen to people like me. I have wanted to do this forever. To be on stage, entertain, perform and sing… singing is my thing. I have been trying to make that happen my entire career,” Sydnie said. During the semi-finals, Sydnie will be competing for votes alongside other Golden Buzzer winners from this series, including singer Taryn Charles, dancers Cyber Agent Legit, singers Ravi’s Dream Team, comedian Nabe, Ssaulabi Taekwondo Troupe and dance troupe Phoenix Boys, who impressed judge Bruno Tonioli so much he broke the Golden Buzzer when he hit it for them.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
