Privacy Notice Cat Deeley broke down in tears at the start of Wednesday’s This Morning as she was surprised with an emotional birthday treat. Cat is celebrating her 48th birthday today, 23rd October, and her co-host Ben Shephard made sure to mark the day at the beginning of the ITV show. Mum-of-two Cat was surprised with a birthday poem by British poet Pam Ayres – something which left her in tears. Pam recorded a video reading the poem out to Cat, causing the presenter to well up and tell Ben that Pam was a huge part of her childhood. An emotional Cat wiped away her tears as Ben comforted her by holding her hand, before they moved on with the show.

British poet Pam Ayres read out a piece she had written for Cat
As they kicked off the show, Ben presented Cat with a caterpillar-shaped chocolate cake with a photo of her face. Cat revealed that her children – who she shares with husband Patrick Kielty – were up early this morning to celebrate her birthday. She said: “Everyone was up This Morning and excited as I got up at 5.30. There were cards made, there was one where we were all swimming underwater and they had made it and it said ‘take a deep breath mum, you’re getting old’. They thought it was the funniest thing on the planet.” Ben said: “You don’t look a day over 47! You look amazing. I think any opportunity to celebrate birthdays is very important. But also, we’ve got the amazing Pam Ayres on the show later. So what we asked Pam to do is write you a poem for your birthday and she has written a poem for Cat Deeley.”

Viewers then saw a video of Pat reading the special birthday poem for Cat. She read: “We mustn’t forget people’s birthdays – the one day in all of the year for making somebody feel special, and those far away to feel dear. To get out of bed in the morning to see all the cards on the mat, from all of the folk who remembered, well that’s nice – well you can ask Cat! No we mustn’t forget people’s birthdays, that is the wrong thing to do. So with speed uppermost, pop a card in the post, and then they might send one to you.” The poem visibly moved Cat as she said: “That’s so amazing. We were talking about this this morning. She’s part of my childhood! You wouldn’t even see her and you’d know exactly who she was!”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
