Privacy NoticeComic magician Jack Rhodes wowed the Britain’s Got Talent judges and the audience when he performed his mind-blowing tricks involving Simon Cowell and Bruno Tonioli during the audition stage of the show, and all four judges quickly voted for him to continue on to the semi finals. The 26 year old from Ulverston, who worked as a nuclear engineer until January of this year, takes to the stage tonight (Tuesday 28 May) in the hopes of going all the way to the final on Sunday. However, he revealed during his audition that his family were not in the audience to support him, and today he told OK! in an exclusive chat that they won’t be there for the semi final, either.

“My family aren’t coming,” he says. “My brother’s playing darts in the pub so there’s a good chance he will be watching it – my wife is coming though, and I’ve got a few mates and my family will be watching at home.” “To be honest, I didn’t want them in the theatre as they’d be too distracting and probably heckling me!” At his original audition, Jack joked that his dad wasn’t interested in magic which was the reason he stayed at home, and he confirms that is still the case, despite Jack successfully making it to the semi finals. “They are genuinely not fans of magic but they are supportive, it’s just not their thing,” he says. “They will be watching at home and voting – probably for the other acts! They are supportive and my wife definitely is, too, she will be there and probably more nervous than me.” Despite them staying away from his performances, Jack has had huge support from friends and family in the run-up to the semi finals. “The reaction at home has been great, and everyone local has been involved, and has rallied the community to get votes so it’s been great,” he says.

Britain’s Got Talent has now reached the semi finals stage

The magician is thrilled to have come this far, after beginning his entertainment career filming himself doing magic tricks from inside his garage and posting them on social media. “I’ve done a lot of magic videos online, and it’s been me just performing to a camera in my garage, like a social hermit crab,” he explains. “Britain’s Got Talent is a good way of doing a bit more live stuff which is super exciting as I have got a tour I am doing at the end of October, and I’m hoping BGT is a good way of getting eyes on that and maybe selling some more tickets. This whole thing is about trying to move from the content world and to get to live audiences and have that amazing reaction from them.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
