Privacy NoticeA Britain’s Got Talent audition ended in tears after the judges told a comedian he was “worth the wait”. Alex Mitchell, whose audition was shown in Saturday’s (18 May) show, was left tearful following his successful performance. The comedian impressed the judges – Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli – with his routine, which included jokes about himself. He admitted he’d gone to his audition entirely alone due to nerves, having even told his parents he was on a stag do in a bid to hide what he was really doing. Alex was given a standing ovation after his routine, prompting him to burst into tears. The judges then gave him some incredible feedback, making the moment even more emotional.

“Honestly I didn’t stop laughing from start to finish, that was an amazing set,” Amanda, 52, told Alex. Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno added: “Your writing is brilliant, you are a great comedian.” Alesha sweetly told him: “You were worth the wait, well done.” Meanwhile Simon rounded off the feedback by adding: “I think a great comedian is fearless and funny, you are both.” Simon had a surprise for Alex, as he instructed him to call his parents and inform them where he was. The judge said: “I think you should phone your mum and dad and tell them where you are.”

Simon then took the phone and spoke to Alex’s mum about his success on BGT. The proud mum gushed: “I can’t believe it, that’s fabulous, I am so pleased and so proud, I want to give you the biggest hug ever.” BGT viewers were equally as emotional over the audition, with many taking to social media to comment. One person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Absolutely LOVED Alex. What an inspiration.” A second BGT viewer added: “I think we’ve just seen the winner.” A third said: “Well done Alex. Fantastic performance. Outstanding audition.”

Elsewhere in Saturday’s show, viewers were left ‘disgusted’ after an opera act took to the stage. Singer Natalie Choquette performed a rendition of Nessun Dorma for the audition, but had decorated the stage with a dinner table. Spaghetti and meatballs was laid out on the table, with the judges invited to join Natalie around it. As she began to sing, the performer took everyone by surprise as she gargled her drink and shoved spaghetti into her mouth, before then tossing spaghetti over Simon as pasta was poured over Bruno. Many viewers at home took to X to share their negative thoughts on the act. One person fumed: “Just put #Britainsgottalent on, and the judges were covered in food. That’s not entertaining, it’s disgusting and food waste. #BGT has gone downhill!” A second added: “I’m going to sound a bit of a downer for saying this, but that last act involving a massive waste of food in today’s world really wasn’t a great move in all honesty.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
