Privacy NoticeBruno Tonioli was visibly moved to tears during the live Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals on Thursday (30 May) as he watched his golden buzzer act, Phoenix Boys, deliver another stunning performance. The Phoenix Boys, a dynamic dance group of boys aged between eight and 19, had previously wowed ITV audiences with their electrifying routine filled with backflips, pirouettes, and split leaps. Their show-stopping number earned them a standing ovation fromformer dancing pro Bruno. In a moment of pure excitement, Bruno hit the Golden Buzzer so hard in their honour that he actually cracked it. Tonight’s semi-final saw the Phoenix Boys return to the stage, leaving everyone in awe once again, including all four judges who rose to give them a standing ovation.

When it came time for Bruno to comment, he was overcome with emotion, struggling to find words. Tears streamed down his face as he reflected on his own past and the bright future that awaits these talented youngsters. During the audition process, he had said: “People don’t really know how hard it is to succeed as a dancer. The work that goes into it and the passion and literally you do it for nothing, you do it for love and I felt that.” His co-judge, Alesha Dixon also praised them, remarking she saw Bruno’s personal passion mirrored within the dance group. Further elaborating on his sentiments, Bruno quipped: “What really touches people is when you perform from your heart. It’s the truth of your performance, that’s really what remains in people’s minds and you touched me and I think you touched everyone here.” Sadly, the dancers failed to make it through to Sunday night’s final, in a tense elimination.

The semi-finals kicked off on Monday night following reports that next year’s edition of the talent show could take a somewhat different format to this series, with ITV bosses said to be considering giving the show a huge cash boost – rumoured to be worth around £100 million. They are also reportedly planning to make the series longer. In recent years, the show has run for around six to seven weeks from mid-April to the beginning of June, but the new plan is for BGT to start in February and be on air for three months.
