Amanda’s choice of attire on BGT has often attracted controversy (Image: ITV)It appears that Amanda Holden’s position on Britain’s Got Talent has been pretty much “established”. Although the 2024 series isn’t over yet, it seems like fans may enjoy their favourite judge on the panel for another couple of years. The star managed to put Simon Cowell on the spot during the grand finale which aired on Sunday June 2. In middle of a performance by magician Jack Rhodes, she cheekily quizzed Simon about her potential “place on the show for next two years and an uplift”, whilst listing, “and with Alesha and Bruno”. However, Simon responded humorously: “yes to the first one and no to second”. When reviewing Jack’s act, Amanda, who’s been a contributor to BGT from its inception in 2004, reemphasised that Simon had agreed to a “two-year deal”, letting out a playful giggle.

This follows an incident where Amanda, who often shocks with her show-stopping outfits, stirred controversy among viewers as she made an entrance for the live finals in a daring metallic dress that seemed to defy gravity itself. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one disgruntled fan wrote: “Considering it’s a family show… Amanda Holden wears the most inappropriate outfits! ! ! #BGT.”, reports the Daily Star. Another agitated viewer added: “What’s Amanda nearly wearing? ? #bgt” Yet another commented: “I hope Amanda Holden is ok – she is dressed for open-heart surgery #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.” Amanda was previously given a stern warning about her outfit choices ahead of the BGT final. In 2020, she faced 235 Ofcom complaints for her daring navy gown, which viewers criticised as being “too revealing” for a family show.

Back in 2017, a Julien MacDonald dress with a hefty price tag of £11,250 also caused outrage due to its low neckline, attracting 663 Ofcom complaints making it the most complained about TV moment that year. Before the live final, Amanda was advised not to let her fashion choices “overshadow the talent on the show”, in an effort to “minimise controversy”. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, highlighted how Amanda is a key figure on the show, not just for her judging, but also for her often bold and glamorous outfits. He elaborated: “Over the years, her fashion choices have stirred quite a bit of controversy. The complaints typically revolve around the perceived inappropriateness of her attire for a family-oriented show. The show is ultimately about showcasing the talents of the contestants. If a judge’s attire is causing more conversation than the performances, it might be perceived as overshadowing the talent the show aims to highlight.”

The stylist stated, “While Amanda’s fashion is a part of her brand, it’s important to balance personal expression with the purpose of the show.” Stylist Dom further explained that “a balanced approach for the final” could “help minimise controversy”, and also “ensure the spotlight stays on the deserving contestants”. “This doesn’t mean she needs to forgo her flamboyant style, but rather adapt it in a way that aligns with the event’s nature and audience expectations.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
