Privacy Notice A tearful moment for BBC’s Mark Chapman was aired live on BBC Breakfast as he tried to convey the very emotional news about his co-star John Hunt’s devastating family loss. John, renowned BBC racing commentator, has been in the media spotlight following the horrific murder of his wife and two daughters at their residence in Bushey, Hertfordshire. Carol Hunt, aged 61, together with her daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspected perpetrator, 26 year old Kyle Clifford, faced a manhunt before being apprehended near a North London cemetery, injured but alive. Despite no gunshots being involved, the suspect required hospital treatment for his injuries, as noted by the police. It was during his commentary for the Euros 2024 qualifiers – specifically, the match between England and the Netherlands – that presenter Mark Chapman from BBC Radio 5 Live delivered an emotional homage. His voice cracking with emotion, Mark revealed: “This has been a heartbreaking day.” Chapman continued with palpable sorrow: “John Hunt is our colleague and our friend, not just to the current 5 Live sport team but to all of those who’ve worked here with him over the past 20 years, and to all of you who have enjoyed his superb commentaries,” reports the Express.

The tragedy has seen an outpouring of heartfelt messages; football legend Michael Owen took to Twitter saying: “And while the country celebrate [England’s victory], spare a thought for John Hunt. I can’t remember feeling so utterly horrified in years. Those poor girls. Truly horrific.” Former face of BBC, Dan Walker, also shared his grief: “Just read through the news about John Hunt and his family. Absolutely devastating. Great commentator and even better man. What a terrible tragedy.”

During the Breakfast show, Naga reflected the nation’s shock: “It’s a horrific story. Tributes are being paid to three women who have been killed in a crossbow attack in Hertfordshire.” The conversation continued as Naga spoke to Aruna Iyengar, reporting from Bushey, where the harrowing incident occurred: “I can only imagine that the community there is reeling from what has happened.” Aruna replied, confirming the sombre atmosphere: “Today, this morning, people are leaving wreaths and flowers outside the house where this happened. “Also there’s a police presence here police are wanting to reassure the community. Also they have more forensic tests to make on the house and on the area surrounding it.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
