Privacy NoticeMario Falcone is barely recognisable from his TOWIE days, after leaving fans gobsmacked with his new look post-eye surgery. The 36 year old had previously shared about his insecurities caused by his “hooded” eyelids and went under the knife in June to fix them. A top plastic surgeon has now spoken to the Mirror about Mario’s surgery results, suggesting the star’s operation may have “failed”, as it isn’t typical to appear noticeably “different” post-surgery. Reconstructive and aesthetic specialist Mark Solomos discussed Mario’s pre-surgery appearance and the likely motivation for the procedure. “Mario was clearly concerned about the excess skin above and below the eye area, particularly if the eyelids were showing signs of being hooded alongside having under-eye bags and excess skin. For Mario, this he is still quite young, however, can be hereditary and perhaps become worse for him in the last few years,” he explained.

Notably, Mark pointed out that opting for eyelid surgery is common and not just for older people. More men have been seeking this surgery post-lockdown, a trend he has observed even in clients under 30. “Eyelid surgery is one of the first surgeries people do, it has become more common in men, especially since lockdown, and I have seen men and women who have come to me for eyelid surgery under the age of 30, so this isn’t against the norm. “The thing with eyelid surgery however is that it shouldn’t be visible that’s the main thing, and I think in Mario’s case this operation has failed as it looks very obvious that he has it done, and looks vastly different. This could be the degree of incision, it is quite difficult to tell, but the eyelid surgery shouldn’t be noticeable and people should just be saying ‘you look good’ and are unable to tell what exactly the individual is doing or have done.” Mark believes Mario has “likely had some Botox as well” because his eyebrows “sit differently”, adding: “You wouldn’t achieve with just the upper and lower eyes being worked on, his eyes also look wider. Ultimately, eyelid surgery is a good thing to have done if needed but it should be invisible and shouldn’t make someone look completely different to their previous self. An eyelid procedure is a day procedure, very common and takes about an hour and recovery only takes 1-2 weeks before resuming normal activities.”

Mario took to Instagram to share an update on his recovery and discuss his reasons for undergoing the surgery during a Q and A session. He revealed that the procedure was carried out at Signature Clinic in London and cost £3,700 for joint blepharoplasty. “It didn’t hurt. [It] was done under local anaesthetic so I didn’t feel a thing,” Mario disclosed to his eager fans. On the topic of recovery, the celeb spilled, “I mean, I had two days in bed which was actually quite amazing with two kids that are five and one – it was quite nice to actually have some down time and chill. But I think it was about ten days for the swelling and the bruising to really subside, and then I was kind of back to my normal activities of being out in public without big sunglasses on and driving and stuff, so it wasn’t too long.” Opening up about why he opted for surgery, Mario said, “I had it done because I just always look conscious of it. I had quite heavy hooded eyelids and they just seemed to get worse, especially since having the kids.” Diving deeper into his feelings of appearing more fatigued and aged than he felt, Mario confessed, “I just felt like I looked really tired and maybe a bit older than what I actually am. So that was one reason.” In addition, he highlighted the self-conscious aspect regarding his appearance, sharing, “And then the bags under my eyes was always something that when I looked at pictures I’d kind of really noticed, so yeah that was my reasons for having it done.” “I just wanted to look a bit more refreshed and a bit younger. I am really happy with my results. I feel my eyes look a lot fresher. They look a bit more open and obviously my hoods have now gone.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
