Privacy NoticeHannah Waddingham as been making waves in television for some years now. The 50 year old actress played Rebecca Welton, the owner of a football club, in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso that first aired in 2020. She was a key part of the cast, starring alongside Jason Sudeikis, throughout all three seasons – which may be making a return for a fourth. She’s also presented the Eurovision Song Contest, appeared in Game Of Thrones, Benidorm and Sex Education, and is now starring in the lavish costume drama, Tom Jones, on ITV1 and ITVX. The four-part adaptation of Henry Fielding’s 1749 comic novel concludes on Sunday night, 29 September, once again featuring Hannah in sumptuous corseted gowns and powdered wigs as Lady Bellaston, with Solly McLeod as the foundling Tom himself. Hannah is delighted with the role, telling TV Times: “I’d always wanted to do a period drama, but, being nearly 6ft in heels, it’s not something that has ever come my way. I assumed it would always elude me! So it was exciting that I could fully immerse myself and be absolutely unrecognisably different in it.”

However, Hannah revealed to People magazine recently that her main role is being a single mum to her young daughter Kitty. She shares her daughter with her ex-partner Gianluca Cugnetto, reports the Mirror. And the actress opened up about her daughter’s shocking battle with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP), a condition that left Kitty “suddenly very ill” and hospitalised for some time before the diagnosis was made. The NHS describes HSP as an autoimmune disorder that affects blood vessels, potentially causing kidney issues, rashes, and abdominal pain. While it can persist for several months, most patients are said to make a “full recovery”. Hannah admitted that she struggled to discuss the ordeal for a long time, but now feels able to share her experience, revealing that Kitty is “much better now”. During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021, Hannah reflected on how the experience influenced her career choices – and inadvertently changed her life forever. Hannah explained how she didn’t want to work far from her family and hoped for a job that would be “close to home” while still showcasing her talent. She went on to share that shortly after she “asked the universe” for such an opportunity, she was approached about working on Ted Lasso. The show was filmed just 30 minutes from her home and her performance has been widely praised. There was even a hint that Kitty might get to keep her mum’s Emmy Award in her room. At the 2021 ceremony, Hannah declared: “She can have this in her bedroom to show her that her mummy will only ever be away when it’s for a really, blooming good reason.” In an inspiring note to her daughter, the actress shared that landing the award is a lesson in hard work, telling People: “I want to teach her that work hard and great things will come to you.” She also expressed contentment with her current company, adding: “I’m happy with my girls and my gays,” despite whispers of romance surfacing linking Hannah with singer Alfie Boe, 50.
