Privacy NoticeA former child actor who had a role in Titanic has revealed his earnings from the film, decades after its release. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are well-known for their roles in the romantic drama based on tragic real-life events. However, one of their lesser-known stars is Reece Thompson, who was just five years old when he played an extra in one scene of the blockbuster. The one-time actor portrayed an unnamed Irish boy who was comforted by his mother as they waited to board a lifeboat. His working-class family was told they could not escape the sinking ship until all first-class passengers had boarded. His mother was later seen tucking him into bed before the ship completely filled with water, drowning the remaining occupants.

Speaking to Business Insider, Reece disclosed that a talent agent had given his mother the choice between him appearing in an advert or a film when he was young. She chose the film, which turned out to be a fortunate decision as Reece continues to earn money from it today. “It turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in history,” he chuckled, “so it’s pretty bizarre in retrospect. My mum was like: ‘Let’s just do it. It’ll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we’ll see it.’ Obviously, it ended up exploding, so that wasn’t a bad decision on her part, that’s for sure.” Although his role consisted of just three scenes and a single line of asking his on-screen mother ‘What are we doing, Mommy?’ he continues to receive residual payments for his role. He said: “When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100.'”

“There have been a couple of times where it’s been like: ‘Oh, wow, that’s a $250 check.’ But hopefully, they keep playing it a lot because that means more money for me.” Over the years, Reece has amassed around $30,000 (£24,000) from his appearance in Titanic. Celebrity Net Worth reports that Leo received a whopping $2.5 million for his role as Jack Dawson the movie, but due to a 1.8 percent cut of backend profits, he earned another $40 million. Meanwhile, Kate, who played Rose DeWitt Bukater, was reportedly paid $2million – $500,000 less than her male co-star.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
