Privacy NoticeTimothee Chalamet’s latest film project has been unveiled, and it’s all about the world of ping pong. The Dune and Wonka actor’s fans have been on tenterhooks for news about this project ever since he hinted at a table tennis-themed film in an old interview clip that recently resurfaced. Now, we’ve got more juicy details. The upcoming movie, titled Marty Supreme, is said to be inspired by the life of professional ping pong player Marty Reisman, according to Variety, even though it’s being marketed as a fictional tale. Reisman was hailed as a ‘wizard of table tennis’, bagging 22 major ping pong titles from 1946 to 2002 with a forehand shot that could reportedly hit speeds of 115 mph. He first discovered his knack for the sport at just 11 years old at a local community centre and started betting on his games until he was able to support himself financially by the tender age of 14. He passed away in 2012 aged 82. Meanwhile, Chalamet will not only star but also produce, reports the Mirror. Safdie co-directed previous A24 hits Uncut Gems and Good Time – both of which were a hit with critics and viewers – alongside his brother Benny Safdie. The brothers have since decided to go their separate ways to chase solo careers. In a candid chat with Variety earlier this year, Benny Safdie explained that their new direction wasn’t due to any rift but rather a “natural progression of what we each want to explore.” He elaborated, “I will direct on my own, and I will explore things that I want to explore. I want that freedom right now in my life.”

The buzz around A24’s reveal of Marty Supreme has the Chalamet enthusiasts absolutely buzzing. One fan quipped that “real ones knew this was coming” while another excitedly proclaimed “it’s the ping pong movie!”. These reactions stem from an old interview snippet where Chalamet teases “two great things” in the pipeline. Initially playing coy by saying he “can’t say” much, he eventually gives in to the interviewer’s prodding, hinting “it’s ping pong, I can say that.” Another admirer predicted Safdie’s involvement signals “another anxiety-filled movie” and a thrilled Chalamet devotee exclaimed: “Timothee in another a24 movie?! WE WONNN.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK! MagazineFacebookTwitterCommentMore OnKylie JennerEntertainment
