This Morning’s love guru Michelle Elman sent her followers into a state of concern after revealing that she was hospitalised during the night. The influencer, who boasts a following of 278,000 on Instagram, shared a candid confession from her hospital bed about the loneliness of facing emergency health situations solo. In a heart-wrenching post, she told her fans: “Well life took a turn. There are so many things I love about being single but one thing that’s absolute pants is going to A&E alone in the middle of the night.” She opened up about the challenges of not having close family or a significant other around, lamenting, “Not having family in the country, number 1 bestie or a partner means I often struggle to even list an emergency contact.” Michelle revealed why she’s driven by her Bad Friend project, musing online, “It’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about Bad Friend, you might have a whole bunch of friends to invite to your birthday but how many do you have who you can call at midnight to come with you to A&E?”

Despite her plight, she maintained a positive outlook, acknowledging the jinx of boasting about her great new year only days prior: “The irony is not lost on me that my last post was saying how this year was turning out to be my best year yet. Even two days ago, I was being asked about my past surgeries and I said I’d been on such a good streak.” The star also imparted some wisdom on how to handle chronic illness, encouraging others to “live as much life as you can between the hospitalisations. And right now, I really really mean it”, reports the Mirror. The This Morning star wrapped up by thanking the NHS staff, saying: “PS so grateful for the NHS, every person was so kind and patient especially for midnight.” Michelle didn’t reveal the reason for her hospitalisation. The TV personality has previously spoken about her health issues, including a terrifying experience from her childhood. She once described the feeling of “floating above her body” after her heart stopped beating when she was just 11 years old. Born with a brain tumour and hydrocephalus, a condition where there’s too much cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, Michelle had to undergo surgery for doctors to run tests.

A few years ago on Loose Women, she shared her near-death experience, calling it “peaceful and calm”. She remembered: “I still recall floating above my bed. What’s comforting to know is that dying is a really calm sensation, and that’s what I want to tell people because it gives you some solace that even in the final moments, it’s really peaceful and really calm.” Taking a candid trip down memory lane, Michelle spoke of her health battles, revealing, “In my head it was five minutes but apparently it was a few seconds. I remember everything that happened but apparently my eyes were closed.” She confessed, “I didn’t talk about it for years but it makes me sound a bit crazy.”

It’s certainly been a rough ride with numerous hospital stays and surgeries – indeed, 15 by the time she turned 20, including operations to fix an obstructed bowel and a perforated intestine. However, the resulting scars are something she’s come to terms with over time. Reflecting on how she felt about her appearance, she previously told The Sun Online, “When you grow up with scars like mine, there is a point in your childhood when you realise your body is different to everyone else’s. My moment was when I was aged 10. Up until that point, I didn’t notice the difference between my stomach and my brother’s.” Reflecting on her childhood experiences, she shared, “I realised that when I was younger, people’s looks of shock, pity and horror weren’t about really my appearance, they were about how an 11 year old girl could have gone through so much. They weren’t reacting to my body because it was ugly, they were reacting to my story because it happens to be a sad one – and one that is painted on my body. Now when people ask me why I love my scars, my answer is simple: because they are mine. I only get one body and the body that I have deserves love. My scars have saved my life. I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for them.”
