Privacy NoticeThe Yorkshire Vet made history with a groundbreaking moment as a beloved dog, Jimmy Joe, was whisked into surgery for an extraordinary procedure. For the first time in the UK, cutting-edge 3D modelling technology was utilised by vets to insert screws into the spine of a dog. The poor pup was suffering from back pain during playtime, causing his owner great worry. Luckily, the skilled team at Donaldson’s Vets in Huddersfield were ready to assist. Surgeons Matt Smith and Martin, the senior surgeon, were on hand to undertake this pioneering operation. Matt shared his optimism about the surgery, saying: “We’re going to do a procedure so he’ll have a much better quality of life, he’ll be in a lot less pain, and hopefully he’ll go on to be running around the fields like usual.” Martin showcased the innovative technique using a 3D printed model and a replica spine, explaining to the audience: “We’ve CT scanned Jimmy Joe’s spine and from that we’ve created a 3D model. He’s got more movement there than he should have, so we’re going to put some screws right down at the base of his spine,” reports Yorkshire Live.

Coronation Street veteran announces huge baby news as he gushes ‘number six’

He detailed the precision required for the surgery: “The drill guide is going to come in and sit down onto the bone and should give us really accurate positioning for the drill and then we can place our screw down into the bone.” However, Martin cautioned about the critical nature of the surgery: “It’s really critical that we get this absolutely spot on. If we’re slightly too far in, we’ll catch his spinal cord and that’ll be disastrous.” The operation was a triumph, and it wasn’t long before Jimmy Joe was back with his mum, who affectionately called him “dopey” and expressed her love with a heartfelt “I love you so much” as she lavished him with hugs.

Sadly not all the news was positive

The fur had started to grow back over his surgery wound and he was able to run around freely. However, other parts of the show were unfortunately more heartbreaking. A pregnant sheep was brought in for a C-section as her lamb was too large to birth naturally. Initially, things looked promising with a large black lamb being delivered and weighed. But when Peter Wright visited the farmer later, he sadly confirmed that the lamb had passed away. On a positive note, the mother was doing well and had adopted an orphaned lamb.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
