Privacy NoticeWhen Valentine’s Day comes around, restaurants up and down the country can be seen bursting at the seams with tables of couples, wining and dining on their love for one another. But this year one eatery is breaking the mould as the world’s first restaurant designed for polyamorous couples is set to open its doors. Opening in London’s Shoreditch on 14 February, THROUPLE aims to break down the stigma surrounding non-monogamous romantic relationships. Only 15 tables will be available, with the restaurant welcoming all polyamorous people, regardless of whether they’re in a three-way, four-way or five-way relationship. Hosted by sexual wellness brand LELO, guests will be able to tuck into a free three-course meal and drinks.

Surrounded by other polyamorous couples, LELO hope to encourage people to embrace their relationship status, without others questioning why they may need additional seats at their table. “Valentine’s Day is without a doubt the most romantic night of the year, and here at LELO we believe that pleasure should be celebrated by everyone – regardless of sexual preference or identity,” said Luka Matutinovic, LELO’s CMO. The launch comes after the brand’s sex census revealed that an increasing number of people are becoming open to the idea of having a relationship with more than one person.

In fact, earlier last year, Will Smith opened up about his relationship to Jada Pinkett-Smith and explained that while they’d been monogamous for most of their relationship, that wasn’t always the case. Research by LELO found that over a quarter of Brits (28 percent) would now consider entering a polyamorous relationship. More so, 38 percent of 18 to 24 year olds believe that having a polyamorous relationship would fulfil all of their intimacy needs. However, only 0.5 percent of people label their relationship as being non-monogamous, possibly due to the stigma surrounding it.

Speaking of the findings, LELO’s sex and relationship expert Kate Moyle said: “Narratives, conversations, information and education are changing away from a ‘one-size fits all’ model of sex and relationships to a more inclusive and curious one. “We are seeing this reflected in the statistics showing that people are being more explorative and open to trying ethical non-monogamy relationship models. The sexual wellness movement is encouraging people to find what’s right for them, which may lie outside of the relationship model that they previously felt that they had to subscribe to. “As we read, learn, listen, talk and educate more and integrate and normalise ideas about sex and relationships taking different shapes into our lives, then we gradually move towards a place of greater acceptance.” To make a reservation, book your table here.
