Privacy NoticeViewers of The Voice UK were left gobsmacked on Saturday night when superstars Sir Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.Am, McFly’s Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher and LeAnn Rimes kicked off the new ITV series in style – by wowing crowds with a huge performance. The coaches headed to the home of Manchester United for a huge performance at the Theatre of Dreams where they unveiled an epic showcase of Stevie Nicks’ anthem Edge of Seventeen to start season 13. Viewers were left stunning by the ‘unexpected’ performance which featured backup dancers, fireworks, pyrotechnics and a huge crowd. According to The Mirror, it is believed that the star-studded gig was actually filmed earlier this year but aired on Saturday night for the first episode of the new season.

Taking to Twitter, formerly known as X, shocked viewers expressed their surprise at the “unexpected” start to the show, with many branding the performance as “epic” and the “best opening.” One viewer commented: “Not even five minutes in and this is the best opening to #thevoiceuk I’ve seen in all the years watching it”, while another added: “Epic song for an Epic opening for #TheVoiceUk”, Meanwhile, a third viewer replied: “said: “What an opening to the show!!!! WOW!! Great to have you back!!! #TheVoiceUk @thevoiceuk.” One excited fan added: “Actual chills. The best opening to any series of @thevoiceuk. The Theatre of Dreams looked absolutely spectacular. #TheVoiceUK”

Another user even compared the performance to The Voice’s version of “the Superbowl”, writing: “OK I have to admit – #TheVoiceUK basically doing their own Superbowl for an Edge of Seventeen performance with LeAnn Rhimes, Tom Jones, 2 of McFly and Will.I.Am was not expected but was actually pretty epic.” New The Voice team Danny and Tom, who are sitting on a joint chair for the first ever time on the show, both had guitars slung around their necks as they joined in the performance on vocals and the strings. Sir Tom, 84, proved his iconic vocals are better than ever during the performance while Will.i.am contributed new raps to the classic song as LeAnn wowed on centre-stage. ITV also revealed that the coaches all got their own personalised Man United shirts following the performance.

The new series sees something of a shake-up to the format, with a new line-up of award-winning judges including LeAnn Rimes, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher on a joint chair, Will i am, and Sir Tom Jones

But while fans were loving the performance, they were left confused by where the stars were. The performance took place on the field at Manchester’s Old Trafford stadium. Fans immediately took to X to ask why they were. One questioned: “Anyone know why they just randomly hired out old Trafford to do that? #TheVoice #TheVoiceUK.” During a chat with OK! ahead of their debut on The Voice UK, Danny and Tom revealed the McFly band member they weren’t sure they’d be able to share a chair with.

“Harry,” confirms Tom. “He’d dominate, he’d press it too quickly. He’d had sweets everywhere. And he’d be spilling stuff everywhere.” adds Danny. “We’ve not actually had time on our own without the other boys!” The pair also revealed how they were getting along considering they were having to make decisions on the contestants together. We had it in our contract that any arguments wouldn’t be aired,” joked Danny, who has previously starred in The Voice Kids. “There was one time when Danny grabbed my hand and slammed it on the buzzer,” confesses Tom. “I was undecided but Danny had already made up his mind.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
