Privacy NoticeMcFly’s Danny Jones and bandmate Tom Fletcher are about to make their debut on The Voice UK. The duo will make history as the first coaches in the UK to share a chair when the series returns on Saturday (31 August). They will join Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am and LeAnn Rimes to try and find the next British singing superstar. Danny has worked with lots of singing legends before during his career, but there’s one legend that he didn’t get on the right foot with – Rod Stewart. The Scottish rocker, a family friend of Danny’s, once invited the lads on to his private jet after a concert for Childline But after Rod naughtily defaced the boys’ passports they were forced to order new travel documents.

During an episode of Would I Lie To You earlier this year, Danny recounted the tale. He explained: “Rod said, ‘Do you want a lift? I’ll give you a lift on my jet.’ Then he said, ‘I need your passports. So we get on the plane, give our passports to him and then fly to London.” Rod had drawn penises on the passports which didn’t cause concern when the lads arrived at border control in the UK. But American immigration officers were not so understanding. Danny continued: “We get a call from our tour manager – I think he was applying for a visa. “Then he was like, ‘Guys, bad news.’ Rod Stewart had drawn willies on our heads. It wasn’t fun travelling around – every customs [agent] was like, ‘You think that’s funny?’” During a chat with OK! ahead of their debut on The Voice UK, Danny and Tom revealed the McFly band member they weren’t sure they’d be able to share a chair with.

And he’d be spilling stuff everywhere.” adds Danny. “We’ve not actually had time on our own without the other boys!” The pair also revealed how they were getting along considering they were having to make decisions on the contestants together.

We had it in our contract that any arguments wouldn’t be aired,” joked Danny, who has previously starred in The Voice Kids. “There was one time when Danny grabbed my hand and slammed it on the buzzer,” confesses Tom. “I was undecided but Danny had already made up his mind.” Watch The Voice UK on Saturday 31 August, 8pm, ITV1 and ITVXStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
