More infoJoin us on WhatsApp The latest episode of The One Show saw a bit of unexpected humour when David Walliams cheekily mentioned Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a chat. Joined by his Little Britain fellow Matt Lucas and ex-EastEnders star Lindsey Coulson, the trio chatted with hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo about their newest ventures, including Lindsey’s gig in the school-based drama Waterloo Road. Amidst the discussion, David couldn’t resist divulging that he and Keir Starmer were once schoolmates: “I was at school with Keir Starmer, yeah. And he gave me a detention and it was Christmas time and it was really cold and he turned off the heating.” This left Alex momentarily speechless, but David lightened the mood by admitting that although they went to the same school, they never actually crossed paths: “I did go to the same school as Keir Starmer, but actually, we didn’t meet each other.”

To add some star-studded spice, David threw in that Fatboy Slim was around too: “And Fatboy Slim was there too. Yeah, he was yeah! “He was doing the DJing and Keir was being the Prime Minister, I was acting the giddy goat!” With the conversation swiftly redirected back to Lindsey and the ’40 years of EastEnders’ celebration, it was clear not everyone missed the moment. Viewers caught wind of the subtle awkwardness and took to social media platform X to air their reactions.

One fan was tickled pink by David’s cheeky jibe at Keir Starmer, tweeting: “Loved David’s dig at Keir Starmer. He’s clearly far too outspoken for the BBC. He’s probably next to be cancelled,” reports Wales Online. Another viewer joined in the fun, posting: “Watching the presenters on #TheOneShow totally not getting @davidwalliams make a joke about going to school with Kier Starmer and giving them a detention and turning the heating off. Don’t know which was funnier.” Amidst the laughter, another social media user added: “That was pure chaos lol.”

David’s playful jest was all about poking fun at the Labour government’s recent move to slash winter fuel payments from a majority of pensioners. With the UK bracing itself against the cold last year, Keir stuck by his stringent policy, candidly stating that the Labour government would “have to be unpopular,” taking on the challenge due to past blunders made by the former leadership.
