Privacy NoticeShaun Wallace, also known as the Dark Destroyer on ITV’s The Chase, has addressed speculation that he’s been sacked from the show. In a recent episode of The Hearing – A Legal Podcast, the 64 year old barrister and 2004 Mastermind champion explained that his occasional absences from the show are due to his commitments as a lawyer. Shaun said: “If I’ve got a long trial, then that will take precedence over my filming, and the Chase know that. But I’ve then got to makeup my other episodes later on in the series.” He added: “So when people see me… not seen me on TV for a long… ‘Has he been sacked? ‘ No, just back to my legal career.”

Shaun, who has been working in the legal profession for over 30 years, has expressed gratitude for his TV role but acknowledged it “could all end tomorrow”. His fame from The Chase has opened up other opportunities, including hosting quizzes on cruise ships. However, he noted that in court, people “only care about Shaun Wallace the barrister.” Shaun has shown a deep commitment to his dual careers, once remarking that he’s “married” to his work life, reports the Mirror. In July, he gave fans a glimpse into his personal life by revealing that choosing not to have children was a “conscious” decision, shaped by his early career as a “young struggling barrister”. He confessed that he “didn’t think it would be right” to start a family while “you’re trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole”. Fast forward to 2022, Shaun showed his commitment to his profession by joining the barristers’ strike, where legal professionals hit the streets demanding better pay.

Lately, fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty said she was ‘worried’ about the future of the show, as the channel makes budget cuts. “We have plans for next year and we are doing fewer shows. All the streaming services are carrying adverts now,” she told The Star.  “So channels like ITV are having to compete for advertising money. It means there is less money from adverts.” Anne then said that ‘every aspect of the media is feeling the pinch right now’. “Obviously, one is always a little bit worried and one is always glad to hear there will be more episodes,” saying she doesn’t want to imagine life without the show on air. Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
