Privacy NoticeAndrew O’Keefe, known for his role on The Chase Australia and as the host of Deal or No Deal Down Under, was caught on a police bodycam during his arrest related to a serious assault incident. The presenter faced charges including common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of prohibited drugs, and breaching an apprehended violence order. The incident leading to Andrew’s arrest occurred in a Sydney apartment, with the alleged assault taking place just days earlier in September 2021. Although he has been sentenced and is currently appealing his convictions, Nine News has now broadcast the police bodycam footage capturing the moment of his arrest. In the footage, Andrew can be heard exclaiming, “This is what happens when I don’t have my medication,” and while being handcuffed, he protests, “This is a simple request. Why are you being f—ing Nazis about it? Why would I calm down when you’re doing this to me?” The arresting officers respond to Andrew’s outburst by suggesting that his “attitude is not making things any better,” to which he retorts, “Attitude? F–k you man, this is not attitude. This is justifiable and righteousness rage about the way I’m being treated,” reports the Mirror. He also demands that the officers “stop telling me to calm down.” As he was being put into a police car, Andrew stated: “Just for the sake of the camera, you will note that at every other time when they’re sticking my head against the wall and cuffing me, I’ve been very calm.” He was later acquitted of resisting arrest following the 2021 incident. Andrew was convicted in January this year of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, drug possession, and breaching an Apprehended Violence Order. The former Dragons Den Australia star was found guilty by a Sydney magistrate at Downing Centre Local Court of assaulting a woman during a confrontation in September 2021. The dispute resulted in Andrew pushing the woman against a door frame, causing injury to her hand and wrist. Court reports indicate that he then assaulted her, kicking her harshly in the thigh which caused her to fall over. Despite Andrew, who defended himself in court, claiming the injuries were self-inflicted, the judge admonished him for his behaviour.
Andrew was a former host of The Chase in Australia
“You treated (the woman)… with disrespect. Your actions were violent and degrading. You placed her in a position of fear, not only for herself but for her children in their own home,” the judge said in court. Andrew avoided a jail sentence and was instead ordered to serve 18 months on a community corrections order for his offences. The court was informed that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar affective disorder, conditions which necessitate daily medication. The TV star was also found guilty of possessing two illegal substances, found in his flat when he was arrested two days after the assault. He was given an $800 fine following his conviction. Andrew has been a regular fixture on television for many years, first rising to fame on Big Bite, aired on Australia’s Channel Seven in 2003. That same year, he scored the hosting role on Deal Or No Deal, propelling him to household name status. He also hosted Weekend Sunrise, a weekend breakfast show, for 12 years, and presented The Chase Australia in 2015. He is the father of four children with his wife Eleanor, but they separated in 2017 and confirmed their divorce two years later.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
