Privacy NoticeFans were shocked when Terminator and Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin’s cause of death was revealed. The much-loved actor passed away at the age of just 27, having starred in TV shows such as ER, NYPD Blue and Curb Your Enthusiasm – as well as 2009 movies Star Trek and Terminator Salvation and 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. He had even been the voice of Clumsy Smurf in several of the hit Smurfs movies. But, Anton – born in Russia, but who emigrated to the USA with his parents at six months old – was sadly killed in an horrific accident that nobody could have foreseen. The young star was found dead by friends in the early hours of 18 June 2016, after failing to make it into a rehearsal the previous day. He was pinned between his Jeep Cherokee and a gatepost on the driveway of his Los Angeles property, and had died from ‘blunt trauma asphyxia.”

Investigations revealed that he’d gone to check the post box on his gate when arriving home, when the vehicle accidentally rolled down the steep incline of his driveway, tragically meaning he was unable to move. A lawsuit later stated: “Anton Yelchin was crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death.” Celebrities were shocked, taking to Twitter to pay their respects. Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick said: This is unreal. Anton Yelchin is such a talent. Such a huge loss,” while filmmaker Guillermo del Toro – who worked with Anton on his animated series Trollhunters – commented: “The sweetest, most humble, delightful, talented guy you’d ever meet. Worked together for about a year. Shocked.” One Tree Hill actor Chad Michael Murray penned: “Just heard about #AntonYelchin what a great talent and good young man. Gone far too soon… #GodBless Terrible loss. You I’ll be missed,” and Doctor Who star Andrew Hayden-Smith added: “Wow, that’s sad news about Anton Yelchin. A very talented guy taken away too soon.”

The manufacturer of the Grand Cherokee was reportedly aware of certain models having problems with ‘rollaway’ incidents, when drivers were unsure if they were parked or in gear. But a software patch didn’t reach dealers until after his death. Fiat Chrysler and Anton’s family eventually reached an out of court settlement, with the manufacturer saying it was “pleased that we’ve reached an amicable resolution in this matter” and that the car company continues to “extend our deepest sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
