Privacy NoticeWynne Evans and Katya Jones have brushed off the recent Strictly Come Dancing controversy. The duo were at the centre of the show’s latest drama after some viewers suggested Wynne had inappropriately touched Katya on camera. However, both have dismissed these claims, explaining that it was an “inside joke” that unfortunately didn’t translate well. During a moment caught on camera, Welsh opera star Wynne, 52, was seen placing his hand on 35 year old dance pro Katya’s waist, which then seemed to shift towards her stomach. Katya, maintaining a serious expression, appeared to move his hand away as they stood together. After discussing the incident on Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two, hosted by Fleur East, the pair seemed to be in high spirits as they headed to rehearsals.

Wynne sported a bold shirt paired with jeans, clearly enjoying a good laugh, while Katya looked fabulous in an oversized white coat over a red dress, ready to face the cold weather. On It Takes Two, Katya expressed her frustration with how Wynne has been depicted online, stating she “can’t bear” the misrepresentation and emphasising that the social media portrayal is far from accurate. The Russian dancer has hit back at any idea that she was made to feel “uncomfortable or offended” by branding the rumours as “total nonsense”. “Quite frankly I can’t bear sitting here watching this man being portrayed as someone he is not,” she asserted, defending her co-star. Turning to Fleur, she clarified: “And in fact it couldn’t be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes. Was it a bad joke? Yes.”

Wynne also weighed in, acknowledging that upon rewatching the footage, he “could see how people may have misinterpreted it,” reports the Mirror. Katya further stamped out any speculation that she had been made to feel “uncomfortable or offended in any way. “Those that have doubts, you guys have got it wrong. Hopefully this will be the end of it. He just keep making me smile please,” she added. It’s since been claimed that the pair were hauled into a meeting with BBC bosses who issued an “informal rap over the knuckles,” following the drama. A source claimed to the Sun: “Strictly wantÂed to draw a line under one of the most troubling periods in the programme’s history, which had viewers deeply suspicious about what went on behind the scenes of the show.” The source went on to claim that such allegations had taken some shine off the contest and they were keen to draw a line under the most recent incident. The source continued: “The rap over the knuckles from Strictly was informal and there aren’t any plans to take any further action against them. But ultimately, amid all the conÂtroversy, viewers are left not knowing quite what to think.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
