Privacy NoticeAnton Du Beke appears to be ignoring any recent Strictly Come Dancing drama, as he took to the stage to celebrate his birthday with his “best friend” Giovanni Pernice. The professional-dancer-turned-judge on the BBC dancing show, said he was treated to “such a wonderful birthday serenade” from Llandudno while performing the Anton and Giovanni: Together tour. The Welsh crowd sang Happy Birthday to the 58-year-old, led by his friend Giovanni. Anton told his fans: “Thank you to everyone who has sent me birthday wishes today. All my love.” Giovanni also wished his “best friend” a happy birthday on his Instagram, posting to his 1.1 million followers he said: “Happy bday to my best friend in the world. “Let’s shake this bum on stage tonight extra hard to celebrate you.” Both Anton and Giovanni shared humours clips from the sold out show on their social media pages which shows audiences laughing and singing along with them.

This act of solidarity comes after the Mirror reported that Anton is the latest professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing to come under scrutiny as the BBC investigates “serious misconduct” on the show. It was reported that the dancer has been named to lawyers Carter Ruck by former partner Laila Rouass, who he was paired with in 2009 while still a pro dancer. Sources allege that Laila’s complaint to lawyers focuses on a remark made by the star, in which he commented that the star looked like “a P***” after a spray tan. He later apologised for the comment.

Du Beke said at the time: “I must say immediately and categorically that I am not a racist and that I do not use racist language. “During the course of rehearsals Laila and I have exchanged a great deal of banter entirely in jest, and two weeks ago there was an occasion when this term was used between the two of us. “There was no racist intent whatsoever but I accept that it is a term which causes offence and I regret my use of it, which was done without thought or consideration of how others would react. I apologise unreservedly for any offence my actions might have caused.”

At the time, Laila, who has an Indian mother and Moroccan father, accepted Anton’s apology. “It was a situation which happened that we have moved on from and I accept his apology,” she said. Following the report about Anton, a BBC spokesperson commented to OK!: “We will not be commenting on individuals or engaging in/with speculation. However, as we have said previously we will always listen if people want to make us aware of something or raise it with us directly and we have appropriate procedures and processes in place to manage this.” This latest revelation could apply more pressure, as the BBC also faces allegations from Amanda Abbington that she had suffered PTSD after taking part with Giovanni Pernice. Giovanni denies allegations about his teaching methods. She was joined by at least two other celebrities who took their complaints about the dancer, who will not appear in the next series, to Carter Ruck. More recently, pro dancer Graziano Di Prima was axed from the show last weekend amid allegations of gross misconduct towards celebrity partner Zara McDermott during their stint together last year.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
