Speaking on Aimee Fuller’s Monday Mile podcast, Carlos revealed there are actually benefits to not having a partner. He told her: “I’m still a part of the shows. I’m still doing the music act. “I’m still doing some of the group numbers. If you are not in the competition, you have more free time, I think I’m just using my time wisely. We’re going to go husband hunting, you know, we’re going to improve our skills and learning.”
Carlos confesses he’s looking for romance outside of the show
Carlos has opened up about his sexuality before, in July of this year, he spoke to Lorraine where he explains that “it’s hard to talk about” in China – where he was born. He also expressed how in China he had a “different life” and added that opening up about his sexuality wasn’t an option, “you can’t tell a word in telly, public, no word”. Carlos has since found a home in the UK and happily said he is “growing and nourishing” himself. But the star revealed he had ‘come out’ to his mum, who found it “hard”.
Carlos and Angela almost made it to the quarter finals last year
Whilst talking to Aimee Fuller, Carlos continued to address not having a celebrity partner, he added: “When the season starts, when you’re busy, your mind is literally on fire and twirling. You never really have the opportunity to really relax. I think I really need that this year. I think this is a good opportunity for me to be doing that, because through that I can learn something about myself that I didn’t know before.” The star also went on to say that the decision not to have a celebrity isn’t “personal”. In Carlos’ first year in the series, he was paired with EastEnders actress Molly Rainford. They reached the final but finished as runners-up behind Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal. Last year, Carlos made it all the way to Week 10 with Angela Scanlon.
Carlos has previously spoken out about being gay in China
Carlos isn’t the only dancer without a partner this year, Kai Widdrington and Lauren Oakley also were left without pairings for the 2024 series. Since the show began earlier this month, Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, singer Toyah Willcox, presenter Nick Knowles and footballer Paul Merson have all been voted off the show. JB Gill and Amy Dowden won the most recent dance off against Paul who left on Sunday night (20 October). At the top of the latest leaderboard were celebs Jamie Borthwick and Montell Douglas.
