Privacy NoticeSoap opera veteran Ron Hale, best known for playing Mike Corbin on ABC’s General Hospital has died at age 78. Ron’s family confirmed on Wednesday (2 October) that the Michigan-born actor passed away on Tuesday 27 August. No cause of death has been revealed. The star retired from acting in 2018 and sadly died just six years later. He was most well-known for his role on General Hospital where he played mob boss Mike Corbin from 1995 to 2011 – when he retired, Ron was replaced by actor Max Gail. Ron also famously appeared in ABC’s Ryan’s Hope from 1975 to 1989.

After retiring from acting in 2018, Ron was living in St. George, South Carolina. He is survived by his nieces and nephews. Ron had been married to wife Dood Hale, the pair tied the knot in 1972 and became a stepfather to her three teen children from a prior relationship. They remained married until Dood passed away in 1989, Ron never remarried. Fans have paid tribute to the actor on social media. One wrote: “Oh, no Ron Hale!! My goodness, when it rains it pours and it always starts pouring this time of the year. He’ll always be Roger from RH to me.” Another added: “There is no doubt that Ron Hale was brilliant on #GH , but some of us will always regard his time on #RyansHope with the great Ilene Kristin as his true claim to soap fame. He was such an enormous talent. #RIPRonHale ”.

My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent and an even better friend. I will miss you.” Ron was born on January 2, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He went on to attend the liberal arts college, Furman University, in Greenville, South Carolina. And Ron’s first ever soap opera role came in 1969, when he appeared on Search for Tomorrow.

Fans and co-stars have paid tribute to the actor

He frequently performed in plays at the Trustus Theatre, a performing arts theatre in South Carolina started by Hale’s brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kay Thigpen. During a 16 year stint on General Hospital, Ron also starred in the spin-off of the drama called Port Charles, which ran for three seasons from 1997 to 2000. Ron’s final acting appearance came when he appeared in The Ghost and the Whale.
