Privacy NoticeRichard Keys, the ex-Sky Sports presenter, has hit back at allegations that he cheated on his critically ill wife before tying the knot with a friend of his daughter’s. The 66 year old, who departed Sky Sports in a veil of controversy alongside former footballer Andy Gray after they were caught on tape making sexist comments about female referees during a game coverage for the network, used X as a platform to tear down what he felt was an inappropriate comment regarding his personal life. Richard secretly exchanged vows with Lucie Rose, a 35 year old lawyer and his daughter’s friend, in a small ceremony in Devon last June. He refuted claims that he developed feelings for Lucie, who is 32 years his junior, while his wife struggled with cancer. The TV personality found himself embroiled in a fiery social media spat when he paid his respects to a colleague from Sky Sports and rugby league commentator who sadly passed away after a fight with prostate cancer. After someone mentioned his previous wife in the comments, Richard couldn’t let it slide and fired back, reports the Mirror.

One user posted on X: “A comment about class when you cheated on your terminally ill misses with your daughters friend has some sort of irony doesn’t it gorilla hands.” Richard defiantly responded to the accusation, posting: “You guys have no idea. Terminally ill? She’s still here – Alive and Kicking. Behave yourself. It’s time for this nonsense to stop.” Another user waded into the drama, tweeting: “Oh come on Richard. I was in the Cardinal Clinic in Windsor with your ex-wife Julia.” The TV host, who has since relocated to Doha, Qatar, to present football coverage alongside Andy Gray for beIN Sports, hit back: “One of the unwritten rules of therapy of course is that you don’t ever break confidences. But you do.” The tweet referred to the end of Richard’s 36-year marriage to Julia in 2016, following her battle with thyroid cancer. She blamed his infidelity for their split and expressed how Richard’s alleged affair had “devastated” her while she was recovering from cancer, also impacting his relationship with their children.

Richard had previously discussed these issues in an interview with The Athletic in 2019: “I’ll mention the unmentionable for you. Did I leave my wife fighting cancer? No. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know why our marriage ended the way it did, but my wife was fighting cancer for seven years before I left her and she had been in remission for seven years.” “We were together every day during her fight, up until a pioneering surgery led to her recovery. Julia had been in remission for seven years. I understand how difficult it was for her when things fell apart. I wasn’t about to get into a tit-for-tat, he-said, she-said, responding to everything being said about me.” Richard made it clear: “If people believe that I walked away with my wife fighting cancer with a friend of my daughter’s. I can’t change that now. Tell a lie twice and it becomes the truth. Tell it on social media and it haunts you forever. I didn’t fall in love with a friend of my daughter’s.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
