Privacy NoticeActor Michael Socha returns to screens tonight for BBC’s second season of Showtrial. The second series begins with a high-profile activist, who’s left for dead after a violent hit-and-run, using his dying moments to identify a serving copper as his killer. Michael plays Justin Mitchell, the police officer accused of murder. Alongside him in the series is Adeel Akhtar, Nathalie Armin and Joe Dempsie. However it’s Michael who takes centre stage playing the police officer under scrutiny – the star had previously confessed that putting on the uniform ‘felt odd’. Michael is no stranger to the screen having starred in This is England, Time and most recently The Gallows Pole. He’s very popular on-screen – but here’s everything we know about his life behind the camera.

Michael remains very private about his personal life, but he is a dad, and has a young son, Elis, who he shares with ex-partner Faye Ray – the pair are said to have split around eight years ago. In 2013, Michael starred in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland which was filmed in Vancouver meaning he spent time away from his family. At the time, Michael told The Standard: “It was a massive issue being so far away from him. His mum is really good and brings him out to visit me when I’m filming, but he’s been to five different countries before he was two. He’s starting pre-school and it’s important that he’s settled and has a routine.” Back in 2016, Michael put his plans on pause to accommodate his family. The star’s major breakthrough came with his role in This is England, and Michael then had plans to move to America for work. However he put his move on hold to prioritise his son when he began going to school.

Michael is the older brother of popular Misfits actress Lauren Socha – she played Kelly Bailey. Talking to the Mirror, Michael explained that he struggled to act in front of his family: “Me and Lauren – we’re not from that acting background. I can do it out of a family situation, away from home, but even bringing my mum to set, I found it all a bit odd. She was like, ‘What are you doing?’. When me and Lauren are [acting] together, it just doesn’t work. We did a show called The Unloved together – I was a residential care worker and she was a kid in care and Lauren couldn’t stop laughing.” Watch Showtrial on Sunday 6 October, 9pm, BBC OneStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
