The 68-year-old TV star was co-hosting the ITV breakfast programme with Kate Garraway on Tuesday (July 16) morning, delivering the latest news headlines to viewers. Journalist Charlotte Griffiths was invited onto the show and she discussed her decision to use the Wegoby injection ‘pen’ – one of the self-administered weight-loss jabs that have become popular worldwide – in an attempt to achieve a beach-ready body. Despite not being overweight and having a body mass index (BMI) at the lower end of the “normal” range, Charlotte admitted that she let a friend administer the jab without doing any prior research, simply getting “caught up in the moment”.

Sitting next to Dr Hilary Jones, Charlotte spoke openly about her experience with the ‘skinny jab’ and how it made her feel as if she was “hungover”.

Richard’s comment sparked outrage among viewers at home, who took to social media to express their disapproval. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “Richard, you can’t call someone an idiot on TV”. Another said: “Fancy calling your guest a idiot.” A third person concurred: “Richard Madeley calling his guest Charlotte Griffiths ‘an idiot.'”. Charlotte candidly admitted in her Daily Mail piece that she was “so stupid” and “bitterly regretted” dabbling with the trend. NHS England’s national medical director, Professor Stephen Powis, has expressed concern over the surge of young people seeking a “quick fix” for a “beach-body ready” figure through weight-loss drugs.
