Privacy Notice Prince William showed he can take a joke at the BAFTAs 2024, as he laughed along with a Ted Lasso star’s Royal Family jokes – including one made at his own expense. The Prince of Wales, 41, was at the glamorous event at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday night as President of the Academy, a role he’s held since 2010. The 41 year old royal watched as the team behind the film Oppenheimer dominated the night, bagging seven awards out of its 13 nominations. The show was hosted by Doctor Who star David Tennant, 52, who kept the audience entertained throughout the evening with his jokes and announcements. Other celebrities also got laughs when they took to the stage to announce categories and declare the winners.

But it was comedian Nick Mohammed, 43, who had the audience in stitches with a joke about Prince William, who attended the ceremony without wife Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. The comedian, who plays Nathan Shelley in the hit show Ted Lasso, told the crowd that if there was an emergency, he himself would be the first to be evacuated, followed by the BAFTA trophies, winners, nominees, publicists, everyone else, and influencers. He then remembered to include the royals, saying: “Oh! And the royals! Sorry. Sorry! Sorry!” The camera then showed Prince William – who was seated beside Cate Blanchett – laughing along with everyone else. Earlier, Prince William had chatted with film fans outside the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank, where the awards were held. According to MailOnline, the Prince told the fans he hadn’t been able to watch as many of the nominated films as he would have liked because he had “other things on my mind”. He did reveal, however, that he had seen Oppenheimer but admitted: “I haven’t seen Barbie yet.”

Prince William attended the glitzy event by himself while Kate recovers from her abdominal surgery and hospital stay last month. The 42 year old had a medical treatment in mid-January and she isn’t expected to be back at work on official duties until after Easter. The family have chosen to keep the specific details of her treatment private. Kensington Palace shared a statement last month saying the mum of three was doing well after her treatment. The official statement read: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress. “The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
