Privacy NoticeRoyal fans are heartbroken after a beloved companion of the Queen’s passed away. Lord Robert Fellowes was also Princess Diana’s brother-in-law, having been married to her older sister – Lady Jane – for more than 40 years. This also made him an uncle to Prince William and Prince Harry. News of his death was announced yesterday, leaving behind three children, OK! previously reported. Social media users were quick to comment on the news. One wrote: “Robert Fellowes, Baron Fellowes, has died aged 82. Former Private Secretary to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from 1990-1999. He was married to Lady Jane, sister of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.” READ MORE: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make major decision about move back to Britain READ MORE: King Charles’ one word excuse to ‘avoid Prince Harry’s calls’ Another wrote: “Robert & Jane Fellowes were part of the late Queen’s inner circle, even being invited to ride in the royal procession at Ascot in the last years of the reign. This showed that the Spencers – contrary to popular thinking – continued their ever good relationship with the RF. RIP.” Meanwhile a third chimed in: “I was saddened last night to learn of the death of Robert, the Baron Fellowes, aged, 82 on Sunday. He was uncle to Prince William and a great friend of the Royal Family. Married to Lady Jane Spencer, Diana’s sister, he was better know as Private Secretary to The Queen in the 90s.”

Lord Fellowes and Lady Jane tied the knot on April 20, 1978. Their children are named Laura, Alexander and Eleanor and, as well as being William and Harry’s cousins, Laura is godmother to the future King’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte. Lord Fellowes was also private secretary to the late Queen in the 1990s, including when Charles and Diana’s marriage broke down. He also advised Her Majesty when Fergie and Prince Andrew’s marriage ended and Windsor Castle went up in flames, destroying 115 rooms in 1992. He was still in the role when his sister-in-law, Diana, tragically died in a Paris car crash at the age of 36. He was part of her small trusted group of advisors in the aftermath of the death, reports The Times.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
