Privacy NoticeMarvin and Rochelle Humes are back on our screens with a new series of The Hit List the BBC’s music quiz show that offers fans the chance to bag £10,000 by correctly identifying songs and artists. Given their musical backgrounds – Marvin is part of JLS and Rochelle was in The Saturdays – they confess they can’t resist joining in the competition. “When we get fed the answer in our ear, Marvin wants to prove he knows it before he gets told by our producer,” Rochelle, 35, cheekily reveals. Now in its seventh series, regular viewers of The Hit List know what’s coming, with popular tunes played across four quick rounds and duos battling to guess the artist and title. However, when you add in the intense time pressure and a nail-biting Final Chart Rundown to wrap things up, Marvin and Rochelle hint that the new series is better than ever. “Viewers feel like they’re a part of the show it’s real family viewing,” Marvin, 39, shares, when asked about the show’s unique appeal. “Grandparents, parents or kids can play along at home, it’s something that can span generations. Plus. it’s a bit of escapism.”

Marvin and Rochelle, who have been happily married since 2012, absolutely love working together. “It’s like we can read each other’s minds,” Rochelle shares. “We’re husband and wife, so it’s like we always know what the other is going to do. If I see a word on our prompter I know I’m not going to be able to pronounce, I’ll quickly say, ‘Can you put Marvin’s name there? ‘ But I wouldn’t do that to anyone else, like my This Morning co-hosts.” Marvin is in total agreement. “It doesn’t feel like work. I’m doing a show I would love to be a contestant on. And also, we get to spend every single minute of our time together. Although Rochelle playfully adds, “I was definitely getting on your nerves earlier!”. The couple confesses that filming the show is one of the rare times they spend together away from their three kids – daughters Alaia-Mai,11, and Valentina Raine, seven, and son Blake Hampton, three. “When we’re here [on the set] we’ve got no kids interrupting us. We can have a conversation,” Marvin reveals.

However, they disclose that they are hoping to involve their children in the show one day. “We always hope they’re going to love it. I think the younger ones love everything,” Rochelle giggles. “The older one [Alaia-Mai] is at the age where everything is ‘cringe’. Marv gave me a kiss the other day and she was like, ‘Oh, cringe.'”. The show’s star-studded specials have seen the likes of former Strictly sensation Oti Mabuse, Albert Square’s own Shane Richie and radio icon Chris Moyles take to the stage, but Marvin and Rochelle Humes are still dreaming of other A-listers joining the fun. Marvin reveals: “I’d love Sir Elton John, but I think that’d be a big ask,” adding with admiration, “He’s just so cool and knows his stuff.” Meanwhile, Rochelle has her sights set on a “big noughties star” gracing their show, fantasising about names like Ronan Keating, Gary Barlow or even a Spice Girl such as Emma Bunton. The dynamic duo also muses over the thought of Royal viewership, with the Cambridges possibly tuning in. When asked if William, Kate, and the kids might be fans, Rochelle chuckles, “Oh, I’m not sure, I’ve never asked,” but quickly warms to the idea, “I like that idea though let’s run with it! “. Reflecting on the transformative five years since their show first aired, Marvin and Rochelle, who crossed paths in a nightclub during their chart-topping days, note how life behind the scenes has evolved. Marvin reminisces with a smile, “Things are very different for us now backstage,” recalling the wilder times, “We used to have parties and alcohol in abundance [when touring].” But now, family takes centre stage, “Now, on our last tour, we hired a company to build soft play at the back of the arena because there are so many kids. Times have changed, but we love it.” JLS, the heartthrobs who shot to fame on The X Factor back in 2008, went their separate ways in 2013 but had a smashing reunion six years later. Marvin and the boys have been hitting the road, touring the UK in 2021 and again in 2023. However, for Rochelle, it seems that her days performing live with The Saturdays famed for bangers like ‘What About Us’ and ‘Ego’ are behind her. “It’s hard enough to get the five of us in a room for dinner or drinks,” she laments. “It never ends up leaving the group chat because everyone’s so busy. Everyone’s got their own things going on. I’d never say never, but I also don’t want to be the one who disappoints fans.” The Hit List airs Saturdays at 6:20am on BBC One.
