Privacy NoticeComedy legend Ricky Gervais has teamed up with EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy for a new series. Ricky is developing his first show since the release of his comedy-drama, After Life. The comedian is reportedly working on an animated series about cats, and actress Natalie, who is known for playing Sonia Fowler, is also lending her voice to the show. According to The Sun: “The project is still in its early stages, but Ricky is super excited as he’s always wanted to make a show about cats. “He’s a big animal lover, so mixing comedy and pets is an ideal combination. And with his star cast on board, it’s bound to be hilarious.” Ricky has reportedly signed an exclusive deal with Netflix for the upcoming series. OK! has reached out to reps for both Ricky and Natalie for comment.

For Natalie, appearing in a Ricky comedy fulfils a big career ambition for the actress. Speaking last year on the Chatabix podcast, hosted by Derek and After Life stars David Earl and Joe Wilkinson, she said: “It’s my dream.” It would also be big news for her family, as Natalie revealed in a chat with the Mirror, that her daughter thinks her character on EastEnders is ‘boring’. “She’ll go, ‘Mummy… Sonia’s so boring. I just don’t like watching you on here, honestly I just don’t like it.” She added: “I say, ‘I’ve been there a long time darling, there’s a lot of people who do like me.”

Natalie has been playing Walford resident Sonia since 1993 when she was just 10 years old. Natalie left the show in 2007, but returned in 2010 for a year. She then reprised her role in 2014 and has been back on Albert Square ever since. In recent storylines, Sonia has been exploring a romance with Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), which has hit some bumps in the road, including the discover that Reiss’ wife is still alive but in a coma. Sonia and Reiss have also been trying to get pregnant, but have been experiencing fertility issues.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
