Privacy NoticeIt’s a time of sorrow for Reverend Richard Coles as he has experienced heartbreaking loss once again. The adored television personality and former music icon took to social media to express his grief, revealing the sad news about his two dogs. The well-loved ex-Communards musician and now-vicar shared a touching memorial online for his cherished pooches, alongside an endearing photograph showcasing them joyously gallivanting in a meadow. His post read simply but profoundly: “Daisy and Pongo, having lived all their long lives together, departed together today.” This latest heartache follows shortly after the passing of his mother Elizabeth in February. Fans were quick to respond with messages of support, one empathetically writing: “Very sorry – at least they don’t have to be without each other, though you have to be without both.” Another fan responded with warmth: “I’m so sorry Richard. They were beautiful. Prayers and love to you,” while a third offered comforting words: “Whilst this is heartbreaking for you, and I can imagine you are bereft. It’s a kindness for them to have crossed the rainbow bridge together. The grief the survivor would have faced would have been unbearable. Deepest condolences,” reports Birmingham Live.

David, who was also a clergyman, died at the age of 42 from alcoholic liver disease, a condition that had affected him since his teens. In 2021, Richard shared his heartbreak over David’s passing, explaining why he wanted to keep the painful details of his husband’s alcoholism private. “I often think if someone dies of drink as people used to say, that people filed them under a sort of tragic, squalid death. David was so much more than that. I wanted to get a sense of why David was so important to those who loved him before we got to a discussion of what killed him,” he said.

In his book The Madness Of Grief: A Memoir Of Love And Loss, Richard added: “It was really, really tough to see somebody you love destroy himself. It is like someone is drowning and you throw them a lifebelt but they are just not taking the lifebelt. And I did try everything I could think of to help him stop drinking, and in fairness to him he did try too, but it was too much for him.” However, he’s now happily in a relationship with Dickie Cant, the son of late actor and Play Away presenter Brian Cant. The couple met on a dating app, with Richard revealing that Dickie isn’t bothered about his celebrity status, and he doesn’t mind Dickie’s atheism.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
